Post Knocker build

Its always surprises me when you do one thing you have to upgrade another thing. The lift arm ball are well sloppy on Fathers DB. They look like they've had some bodge repair over the years. Now its time to do it right.




My thinking as its carrying quite a bit of weight with the knocker they need sorting. I have got some new balls to fit. Most repair ones you see are the type where you chop the arm and just weld a new end on I don't like that type,im trying to keep the arms as original as I can, by doing it the hard way lol. Ive got the old balls and casing out and are ready to weld in new ones.



I have one new set already I now have to order another set as father now wants the fronts done. Typical eh.

Finally found my signing in to youtube. Here a short vid of father testing the knocker unfortunately he couldn't wait for the slap plate and just drove the weight onto the post. Once he had the slap plate with the holding spikes fitted he realised how important it was. There are a few more refinements to do, for instance I may have to open the port hole on the top link ram as it is a bit slow, but father likes it slow, I need to fit a compact 90 fitting on the main pivot arm as the hose could foul the roof.

Deffo off the top of my head the total cost of this build is mainly the hoses and a couple second hand rams no more than £250 tops, admittedly the girder and other bits was around the yard, fathers chomping at me to get it finished lol

I always swap the ends on the arms for these below, leave the pins and ball on the machine. So much easier to pick up attachments.

Excellent piece of kit. The tilt ability is great. Most of our place is on a slope.

I guess you have given up with the (Danuser ?) Auger ?

Good point fathers not decided yet, I saved it from the scrap yard totally restored it . There,s another posting i could do on that.. Augers are good if you like ramming the soil back in , father said hes getting to old for that.

Yes Bob they are nice to use on modern tractors, not to fathers liking though

brilliant job, I would be swapping that rope for hauser wire rope though, the weights going to take no prisoners if(when) the rope rots, so you will be contracting fencing and ditching this summer ....

Can you get hooks in cat 1, only ever seen them in cat 2 or 3. I'd imagine a small David Brown will be cat 1?

I even use the same sort of thing on the top link, can’t think of anything worse than trying to wrestle an attachment onto a tractor when you are on your own, these things make it a breeze.

Handy to drill a pilot hole for straining posts as long as the auger is smaller diameter than the post then kick the soil back in & drive the strainer with the post driver.
