Can you get hooks in cat 1, only ever seen them in cat 2 or 3. I'd imagine a small David Brown will be cat 1?

cat 1 one end cat 2 the other end of the arms. Don't know if that's standard on all the D's but after reading on the DB forum they don't give a definite one way or anther.

Fit the cat 2 hooks. You can get balls to take cat 1 or cat 2……..to fit a cat 2 hook. A big hook can take smaller but a small hook cant take bigger

Bleedin typical, I was in one of the sheds this morning getting the mower sorted, flat tyre, and father hollers over “check the back of that shed there maybe a couple rams” I could not believe it.

I could have saved a few quid had I asked if there were any about . No matter I stripped one down

cut it down to the size I needed. Took the end off on the lathe





and drilled the return hole for the double acting fitting. then chopped the ram to the size




Got them welded back together, cut the top link eye off the other ram and welded it on the new ram.


Its got ¼ bsp fitting which should make it quicker but no so fast as its uncontrollable.
I still need to get a second top link eye on the other end but Im sure we have some. Somewhere !!

brilliant job, I would be swapping that rope for hauser wire rope though, the weights going to take no prisoners if(when) the rope rots, so you will be contracting fencing and ditching this summer ....

Nah!! Arther if a ropes good enough for Brice its good enough for me. The 16mm I used has a breaking strain of over 5000kg. I was initially going to use wire rope, but in the end I used nylon rope as I am using ally pulleys and I thought wire rope might dig into the ally.

Bit of an update on these link arms while I'm waiting on a couple hoses. The new ball are a tad bigger so I have had to enlarge the hole a tad. Simple job with the old boring head I picked up a while back. Just waiting on the other set of new balls before I weld them all in.

no idea who brice is , but if its rated at 5 ton thats great, and yes dont think the wire and ally would be a good mix !

Cracking day today!! I got all the grass cut this morning before it got to hot. The post man delivered all my parts I have been waiting on. Hoses, link arm balls, and lever knobs. Father liked my idea of the main red hammer lever for safety.


Balls all welded in,


hoses fitted. I am still going to get the top link eye but for the time being I have welded on a steel lug,




just so father can have a play over the weekend. I like to shop local if possible but the local prices are getting ridiculous compared to on line, its cheaper to buy a complete top link online than it is to buy an end locally. Heres how it sits tonight, all plumbed up ready for father to play tomorrow.
