Thinking more on it - it only needs to hold the filter panel in place when turned off, suction will pull it in when on so the clips can be very light indeed - a simple spring across each corner or something like that.
Also I don’t want you ruining your fan!! You may need a bag filter after this as powder coat particles are very fine and these are generally used as pre filters. And I’m sure you are not stupid so just a heads up, make sure you have your filter the right way and ensure it’s as air tight as possible.
This fan is tough enough I had it hooked up to an extract system on my big lathe when i was doing a lot of cast iron, its sucked plenty of that - its made for sawdust/woodchip handling so its pretty tough.
The filter is a G4 which as far as i can see goes down to 1uM particle - Only info i can find on powder is a size of 1uM to 40uM so it should be ok. I'll be seating the filter on a thin bed of foam strip, the sides will be framed-in. The air-box will be seam-sealed once assembled, to strip it down i'll have to cut the seam-sealer.
My main concern is powder being exhausted from the outlet, will have to check that before deciding if i need to vent outside or not.
Stick a bag over it
Could do, maybe a proper filter box.
I might add a layer of filter wadding in front as a pre-filter, got a big roll of it so might as well use it.
OK I am a bit missing the point here with the filter at the top?
Is the filter to stop dust coming in or are you going to be drawing the powder up and out through the filter, because I think you will block it quite quickly.
If you have a powerful fan why not suck out of the booth at the bottom of the booth, make a sort of trough in the base with two sheets of 0.8mm so it helps collect powder that drops, draw out from the bottom side into a cyclone separator and then just have a filter box on the output of the cyclone. There is a good chance the cyclone would catch most of the powder before the air hits the filter.
You mention the fan was able to collect iron dust so guess it can move air in enough quantity?

I have a feeling the fan will be too strong but need to test it out, its a cap-start 750W motor and i don't think they can be speed controlled ?
Coming along nicely ! Have you insulated the panels with anything ?
No need, its a powder spray-booth not an oven
I know mate just asking as that can weigh then down a lot
but steel was cheaper
Local skip(s) > find washing machines > battery angle grinder = steel panels
