The other thing being if you double the volume you halve the pressure. Same amount of air you need (near as dammit considering you only need 90 psi) but you don't have to squish it down so much, it doesn't get so hot, the compressor doesn't have to work so hard etc.

Only if you stop and wait for the tank to refill when the motor starts. If you continue to spray with the pressure slowly dropping as the pump isn’t large enough to keep up with the demand the width of the fan decreases and the paint doesn’t end up on the panel very well

Genuine question: how is that worse than having a smaller tank that runs out more often? I appreciate that, as with any system, each component should be matched to optimise the performance so this would be a slight compromise if the compressor section is vastly mismatched with tank volume. But in this scenario, the OP is trying to use "too small" a system and considering increasing pressure to improve it. I am merely suggesting a better option is a bigger tank (or just bolt on a second tank).

If it’s going to be used with a spraygun that has a bigger requirement than the pump can supply ie a if spraygun uses 14cfm and the pump can only supply 9cfm then adding additional volume only helps short term. Perhaps if with a 90l receiver you can spray one side of a door before the compressor restarts then perhaps with double the volume it may be possible to spray both sides of the door. Another option may be to replace an hvlp spraygun with an lvlp one that requires less air then the current compressor can supply. For use with a grit blaster increasing the volume will work as it’s less critical when the pressure starts to drop

Get a bore camera and check inside the reciever - they are not expensive.. fiver on ebay. Drain holes are not always in the proper plsce and will trap a reasonable puddle of water. Mine has to be tilted to get it all out.

For spraying.. HVLP gun? There are other guns using less air, that will be better on a small compressor.

I know. I got a scar on my chest after the Hose blew off the hose tail the other day. I wont go into to detail about the dent in my fore head. It's gruesome, and the result of me trying to make a ' pressure pot' from a discarded Helium cylinder .

I wouldn't even attempt to spray a car. I hate cars any way. I just spray bike tanks and frames etc . That's why I only need a cheap Asian ,9.CFM, FAD machine .

Right. I reckon if I use a larger receiver, it will over work both the pump and the motor. I can see the attractive ness of having a larger air receiver, , but it just appears to be counter intuitive! I just need a PVR that will blow at about 10.5 to 11 bar.
That's it....
I It should be simple , yet I have purchased two this week from a trusted UK stockist and they both release at 8- 9.5 bar?.
I don't won't to go over safe working pressure on this air ' 140 psi will do what I need.
I just want a reliable PVR.

I know these Asian compressors. Forget the brand when it's a belt drive, 3hp twin with a 90- 100 ltr tank their all the same. Just different badge .
They are actually quite good, quieter than direct V twins lower reving, and have got the B3800 pump or a clone.
They can be run at 145 PSI , but some stupid legislation , forces manufacturers, and after sales to set them at 125, psi. If you look at the CE plate which should be spot welded on to the receiver, you will see SWP 10 BAR, PT 15 BAR.

I decided to buy a relatively decent switch with adjustable differential, rated at 20 Amps.

I bought an 11 bar safety relief valve From Machine Mart, and am waiting for a Glycerine filled filled 62mm guage Frome a local trusted supplier.
Question.
Will this gauge be more reliable accurate than the normal gauge's manufactured in the East? It's marketed as a gauge, for Hydraulic use! Can it also be used as a Pneumatic guage?.Will it be more ' trustworthy?

no diffrence realy. the glycerine ones are for use in powerwashers etc where the pressure is pulsing and wreck a standard air one in 10 seconds flat

Cheers. So just go for a standard one? I'd really like to get a reliable one. I'm still puzzled how the two safety valves , rated at 11 bar kept blowing off at about 8ish,? I'm sure gauges can't be that out, so I want a decent gauge for piece of mind.

Just realised, that the two 11 bar pressure relief safety valves , that don't go near bar, where supplied to me by a member of this forum?
I trust folk here and it's always my go to place for information when I run into difficulties, but these safety valves are really bad, it's not good to sell stuff like that.
They have been helpful though and refunded me immediately, I can't complain about the service, just don't understand why the valves are faulty_ and the are definitely faulty.
