Rivnuts look interesting but i bet i would need another tool as a normal rivet gun wont work with them.

Exactly like that. Hopefully i can weld the hinge plate straight.

clamp a piece of thick plate 10mm or so or box to the frame and then clamp plate to that to keep it straight.

weld it up, then grind it flat. then clamp other way around so you can weld the back of plate to box.

if you get what i mean

i would have just welded it from side i'm not mounting the hinge to. Will do as you've said i have some 4mm plate.

That was the "complete with fitting tool" I got with a set of sidesteps for a Freelander

Edit: It wasn't even a threaded bar, just a plain piece with a clearance hole in, a bolt and a nut.

I picked up some hinges and a the correct cutter.

I've cut a bit of scrap wood the same height as the doors and mounted the hinges going to use this to work out the size and placement of the plates.

Had another look at the doors as i'm rubbish as cutting things square these were cut at the wood shop, guess what they are not square

Finally a bit more welding. Not great but should hold the doors on.

Vertical down kneeling on the floor. I did put a chamfer on the 4mm plate.

And the other sides right to left.

The doors are on. I feel like getting more wood and cutting them myself. Think i could get less of a gap in the middle and an even gap.

Welded the hinge mounting plates on to the wrong side of the frame grinder to the rescue.

I need to add a piece in the middle to stop the doors.

A couple a better welds.

Mounted some plates to secure the counter top.

All thats left now is the stop for the doors. What are the options here?

The frame does not look too bad now its painted.

Still a lot to do not looking forward to painting the MDF.

Still not decided if i should chamfer the edge of the counter top.

Decided to redo the doors. This is the best i can do not 100% happy the top bar is bowed in the middle i don't think its the weight of the mdf on top maybe it was like this when i got it?

took slim_boy_fats advice and put a chamfer on the inside of the doors.

More painting now

Cut the counter top to fit the table and gave it a rub down ready to varnish.

There are a couple of marks in the top edge of the table

do you think something like this would look ok?

What are you going to do on the doors? MDF might not finish as the same shade as the [hardwood?] top, after the varnish is applied....

Not trying to match the doors to the counter top. White doors and hopefully a light natural colour on the counter top.

The pic above i was referring to the chamfer on the top edge it would remove all the dings and may be better with kids running around.
