Might as well put this here, after all it's a sign of sorts for the pub. Sorting a new bit of heavy duty fencing for the pub. Lad's printing the stencils. Just the "N" to do. No matter which way we position them I reckon we'll end up with letters sat over a join between two boards:

I knocked up a quick 4" post this evening and daughter and I went up and fitted the first "blackboard" sign. I dug a 2' hole and broke my post hole digger! Ruddy hard going.
I'll clear the spoil later but it's nice clay. Half tempted to fire something from it!

Nicely done.
I used to see expensive hand-done signwriting jobs on vans that the signwriter never coated with clearcoat or varnish.
Washing the vans took its toll, as did the weather. I thought it might have been a cunning stunt by the signwriter for repeat business.
You still see the odd one around, but most vanvertising is stick-on now.

The latest little sign has 10 coats of Pro-cote acrylic lacquer over the acrylic paint on the sign and the Bedec Barn Paint used on the frame. The theory being we can periodically wash/wipe it down and recoat. Bit of an experiment.

Last month up the pub we had "Guess The Weight Of The Marrow". With the quiz entrance fees and guess money it raised over £110 for The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charity.
This month and with Halloween, it's " Guess The Weight Of The Pumpkin". I went and sourced this beast tonight from a local place that caters for kids with learning difficulties and has a pumpkin patch. Proceeds will go to The Poppy Appeal.
Daughter knocked up the signs.

A Pound and you can have a guess!
Honestly I don't know, though everyone asked when I struggled in with it. Maybe they thought I'd weigh it so as to have insider information on the guessing
I lug 56lb weights around at work. I reckon it's circa 20kg, maybe 25. It's immense.We'll weigh it on quiz night in a couple of weeks.
We did find with the marrow that we lost a bit of weight through I imagine, dehydration. Can't see that happening to this beast.

Deja vu... up the pub just now.
Turns out a couple of cyclists had been past in the last month and stopped a couple of times for a drink. They'd seen the new sign. Up until then they'd been cycling past thinking it a house. Today they came back with family and friends! It was packed by usual standards. Landlady thanked my family and I for all our efforts.

How long before you can't get into the Pub because it has been "Discovered" ?

It's a chance you take. We're just printing some witches hats for the pump handles.
It'll be interesting this winter, how many the signs draw in.
Tbh with the open fire going it's a bit special up there.
