You only do steel or do you do ali?

Depending how you planned to make the sign it might need some bridges added to keep everything attached, if you were going for the idea talked about of mounting it too a backing piece then each individual part can be mounted separate, the machine can do aluminium but ive never done any with it.

Thanks. Think I'll have to go back Thursday when they open again and have a chat as to what they want. They might even have some one on the case already.

Another thought, and it might be a quick fix is to cnc route that design you've done in timber. Paint blue and infill the routed channel with yellow paint.

I quite like the Sun face. A bit pagan, echoes of An American Werewolf In London, I'll suggest a pentangle on the wall!

A local place with a CNC router has just come back. I asked how much just to route the Sun design a few mm into ply if I can supply the DXF.

"Simple enough to do – would be in the region of £65+VAT plus material cost – would allow circa £15+VAT (assumes dxf ready to go). This would be for a routed unpainted piece.

The main issue would be the sharpness of the points if we were doing a square edge route – the points would be rounded to the size of the tool used (prob 8mm). We could run a v-carve program with an engraving tool to get the sharpness, although this would take longer to carve and therefore more expensive – imagine double".

Either that or a sticker from the local car graphics place!

a galvanised sheet then painted would last years ,stick on graphics on top, need some one to do the artwork though I geuss

Seemples, make it c 12" X 10"[ish] like an old enamel garage sign which could be screwed to the side/door of Members' man-caves/garages/workshops. Anyone prepared to guesstimate how much they could be lasered/cnc plasma'd for in [say] mild steel [for painting/powered coated] with/without a backing board painted appropriately - or even stainless. Thickness....1.5mm > 2mm?

I'd certainly pay a reasonable amount [with a proportion to forum funds] to have one on which I could practise my as yet non-existent spray painting skills.

Ahhhh, didn’t realise you meant a real sign

in that case there are members on here way more capable than me to design and prototype something.

id happily pay for one but have no interest in contributing towards forum funds for the simple reason that I’ve never seen any mod join in with the fun except for the first few pages last year

Mhhhh, tricky one this.

My approach when working was to always leave the Office Party early to let them get on with it. That's saves a) you from possible embarrassment - sometimes when the drink's in...the wit's out b) allows them to moan about you when you're not there and c) you might have to be handing out reprimands when work reconvenes

God no, real stuff from Westerham Brewery. It's more ish.

Have it enameled like the old tobacco & coke signs , they last for 100 years or more . use a cut stencil to make two sheets identical fit them in the frame back to back .
