I think the orb of the Sun in hers needs to be perfectly round, looks a bit flat to me? The original was:

Then does it need the band of blue sky separating the orb and the rays emanating from it?

Maybe hers hasn't risen as far as the original so less is showing.

What makes a good pub sign in terms of long lasting materials and finishes?

Just rediscovered my local after 35 years. I honestly thought it closed. I first went there when first courting SWMBO. Then we moved away and work, kids etc took over. Seems it became a real locals pub, tucked down a remote lane behind an over grown hedge.

Seems they never shut until Covid. Went to the opening night last night then again today. A decent stroll from my house thus ready for a pint when I get there.

It's a REAL pub. Totally authentic and like a time capsule. They don't do food. Used to years ago when the late landlord was renowned for his skills in the kitchen. The family who own it are looking to make a go of it again.

Talking to the landlady ref the faded sign. It really needs renewing. She says over the years they've had a few, done on occasion by local artists. Was even considering offering my daughter's services as she's a dab hand at painting etc.

Wondering what could be done. Maybe the painted rural scene one redone and encapsulated in casting resin? Or the Sun one done as a sandwich of laser cut, powder coated plates? Maybe as a light box with solar power?

Many an evening was spent as a cadet in the rising sun in Warsash it was a nice pub down in the harbour/marina. If I remember correctly its sign was like the blue one you have a photo of.

She said "You do it!" Apparently a big deal to paint yellow over blue now as it'd need a few coats of white beforehand.

Madam here is off and running with the Cricut machine. Real easy to cut stencils out of card. I imagine it would cut gaskets too. Just playing with fonts, sizes etc:

Is your micro brewery still down the road? I went to a small music festival at Shoreham yesterday. Think it was sponsored by The Stay Wild Brewing Co Limited who brew some of the beers they sell.in Shoreham.

The Iron Pier? Yes still going. There's a new one down Cuxton way just opened up a few months ago. I got some of their beers as a gift it was very drinkable.
