Not a lot happened for a good while whilst I was recovering and generally feeling a bit annoyed, but found a little bit of motivation again the last couple of weeks
front end straightened up and replacement bonnet, wing, door and headlight fitted.
And today I’ve cut the rear quarter panel out
I’ve also taken the fuel tank out, firstly as a bit of safety whilst cutting and welding, but whilst it’s out I may as well upgrade and have a new tank, swirl pot new pumps etc rather than the standard system it was running

A little bit of swapping cars around this morning, meaning I had three of them at home first thing. The red one seems too good to cut up so I’m going to start building that as another race car. That’s back up the yard in storage now

Plenty to strip off of the black one for spares now and then time to get cutting that up

Just to hijack the thread for a mo
Yesterday I had a track day with my best mate and his race prepared MX5
I had a go at driving it and some hot laps in a variety of interesting cars both track and fast road
I now totally understand the buzz
His MX5 was setting pole position lap times for the MX5 Cup, he was a happy boy

Front drivers side brake pipe split so I lost pretty much all braking effort. With the front/rear brake bias adjusted so that most of the braking is on the front there was very little braking effort left to the rears.
Freak accident - had been under the front wheels just before the race and hadn’t noticed anything, they were braided hoses as well
What track was you at? It’s a slippery slope from here on in - it’s addictive like anything else that’s bad for you!!

We were at Donnington Park, RS owners club meet
My mate was doing charity rides in his MX5 5. He had his mates with him as pit crew, all life long petrol heads and good on the spanner’s
He was doing 5 laps a time then dialling it a bit more each time till they were all smiling
A great way to get free track time time
This was his toy
His other car is a seat Leon touring car, factory prepared, and now significantly upgraded, I’ve been out out in that, makes the MX5 look like a toy

I had a few laps, it was good but I wasn’t a patch on my mate Dan, he knows the track n car very well
edit, he set that ti Ron his own
I used to do a fair few trackdays at Donnington Park, really good circuit.
Need to take the Golf there again when it's all buttoned up for old times sake.
First time out waiting in the pit lane I was bricking it but after a few laps I was sold!.
We used to do Club GTI days there.

I did a couple at Donnington in the Alfa, fried the brakes both times 
What I did notice though was how civilised the car days are compared to the bike track days.
Cars = passing on the right only, no overtaking into a corner etc.
Bikes = No rules apply, thrash the tits off it and pretend you're Valentino Rossi

Minor update, the bank holiday weekend provided the perfect opportunity to strip anything and everything that was bolted to the donor car and also get the replacement rear quarter off. I will cut the other side off as well and keep it as a spare along with the front chassis rails. There wont be much left of this shell to go for scrap.
