@Robotstar5 Friend of mine has a P38 factory press car with a CVC reg
It has some preproduction differences that you'd need to be a rivet counter to notice
He's not a rivet counter though but is preserving it as best he can
He also has 2 L322, ones a TD6 and the other the diesel V8 and loves them.

I was gob smacked when I discovered the complexities of the electrical side in my bland old Mondeo, 3 extremely complicated circuit boards to control everything, but also switches and fuses for every function on the car. It’s like someone was given instructions to make the electrical system as complicated as humanly possible.I went one better and worked there for a few years
I've seen what's inside them and how complex they are so wouldn't buy a new one.

I have owned a L320 V8 diesel for 15 years - she has done 85,000 miles, (we also run a Smart car for local journeys.)
Without any doubt a range rover is a wonderful place to be and in my personal opinion very few cars can compete with them.
Many years ago I was fortunate enough to find an independent mechanic who specializes and works only Land Rovers, without this contact, keeping the vehicle on the road would have been financially challenging.
Has it been maintenance intensive? In comparison to other vehicles I have owned I would have to say "yes" - they are incredibly complex.
Would I recommend buying one? It depends how much "disposable income" you have as a Range Rover WILL most certainly help you dispose of it.... and if you are relying on your average Land Rover franchised dealer/garage, you will hemorrhage money at a truly alarming rate.
My vehicle is now worth nothing, but obviously due to its provenance is worth a lot to me; my attitude it that I am happy to spend £1000/year on maintenance replacing failed or broken parts, (Note: this does not include, tires, oil changes etc), and once she exceeds this she will be "broken for spares" or going for scrap.

I know a chap who has a 'CVC' that went to the Met Police and had the honour of escorting Princess Dianas funeral cortege.
I saw it at a Gaydon show a few years ago.

I would have thought that a vehicle that has only done 85k should never need £1000 plus service items to keep on the road and would consider it anything but reliable.My car has now done 130k and still only needs a service each year @ £150.
I do. I just don't have the disposable cash or time for mine at the moment hence my negativity further up. I need to put some time and effort into it as it's a lovely place to be as you say. But I picked up a cheap 5 series (was mine before I sold it to my sister and I bought it back) and that just runs fine without much effort.You agree ??
I'd say you need to budget 1-2k per year for 'running costs' on these big heavy land rovers. Tyres, bushes, brakes, batteries... all more regular 'service' items on these in my experience. My D3 lower arms are clunking again after 5 years. Most cars would probably need them changing once in a lifetime if that.
I’ve had 5,all in the mid ‘80’s,used to off road a fair bit,they were meant to do that regularly,couldn’t see the point in having one if you didn’t,great tow vehicle also,but I fixed whatever was required myself,boy could they rot,perfected my gas welding on them,I imagine they’re still hard to beat as a capable dual purpose luxury car,but of course they’re so often status symbols unfortunately.

You've never owned a Merc, Citroen, Vauxhall, Volvo or Ford then! all are prone to suspension components in single figure years old. Yes, LR's are more complex, they're also more capable which is mostly why the suspension is more complex in the first place.
I used to off-road my LR's (including the RR's) quite often, including trips to North Africa, nothing ever broke or 'wore out' quicker because of it. One of the companies I used to work for always had a 'support vehicle' for the participants to dump their extra spare parts and tools in along with a lot of 12V task lighting for the inevitable overnight repairs, these were the drivers that scoffed at my Discovery3 from the cabs of their Series and Defenders.
'My' spares kit was a couple of fuel filters, a second spare wheel & tyre, tyre repair string & patches, some air suspension pipe and a handful of in-line couplers, it was never used on my vehicle but I did assist a Range Rover Sport driver when he crested a dune a bit too enthusiastically in his 4.2 SC and managed to burst an airline on landing when the top of the suspension damper pierced it (it's normally 20mm away....)
Oh, I'm not doubting their capability. I currently own four land rovers so clearly like them but I suspect I have bitten off more than my current time allowances will allow me to chew. Of all of them though, the 110 has been the most reliable, get me anywhere regardless vehicle. The D3 and D2 have been fairly good. The RR has been a pain in the backside and the mistake of these four.

I don't always spend this - it is what I budget and remember, £1000 does not buy much regarding RR spare parts - on the plus side, they are readily available though.
i started to put a new front pipe flexi onto a Disco 3 yesterday , 2.7 down pipe with a cat , the price for that front pipe was 1947pounds plus vat , and no longer available , at the same time in the workshop was my Aygo for a waterpump ,
It took me all day to strip the Disco and get the pipe on the bench ready for welding ,,, it took me an hour to do the waterpump and that included a cup of tea , hard to believe the two were worth the same price .

Yep, seen that one up close too, would have been pre COVID but can't remember which show
There is a CVC register and they do try to get them together at various shows

£1k doesn't buy much in spares for any car TBH - and I'm not just talking about genuine parts.
