Copper float. Worthwhile idea to see if it floats! Im considering anything. The needle valve had a washer under it which was making the flow of petrol higher. I’ve removed this, now there’s not any backwash of fuel in the air intake but the tractor won’t start. Most frustrating.
is there space to adjust the lever that moves the needle , some are bent to a certain distance off the face , this may be the case , have a chat to the owners group , or see if theres a rebuild manual on the carb , zama and the likes use this system and have a small gauge for setting the heigts.

No there’s no adjustment lever for the needle. I’ll take the carb off again to have another look
its not so much of a lever as the bend you put on the lever ,, hope that makes sense ,,, post a pic if you have it in bits .

Carb is at a repair shop. Really cool place stuffed full of old motorbikes, a Lancia Beta and two old guys who were apparently talking about how nobody had walked in with something old and weird in a while. Allow me to introduce myself, gentlemen

Carburettor has been fixed, reassembled really nicely, I couldn’t be happier.
What is annoying is that it still won’t start - it will *almost* start. I can get it to fire 1 to 3 times before it putts out and then the same. Spark is good, I tested the magneto using my left arm
fuel is not leaking anymore but fuel/air mix will aggressively pop back out the air intake. I feel I’m close but I’m close to throwing in the towel with it for today.

More of the same. Lots of forums saying make sure the gap is set correctly, unfortunately no plug width info posted.

28 to 30 throu as a start, if memory on similar engine is correct.
Closer if coil pack is old/weak.

Odd question, as I am driven along.
The donky engines at my mates farm used to get air leaks on the inlet manifold, start run and soon cut out.
I guess you checked for that?

Give it some easy start, if it runs on that it’s not an ignition problem

Yes, all sealed with fresh paper gaskets and hylomar. The exhaust does leak a little, but not enough to inhibit starting… will buy some easy start today
