I think the engines in Antars were built to a lot higher specification than a b&s. First you need to get the old b&s engines up to continuous output not a flash test for the rating. They may be rated more sensibly these days but the older ones were swamped by small Honda engines that provided the rated power all of the time.

One of my daft ideas is to take some kind of basic engine, possibly a cheap Briggs & Stratton, and see how far it could be pushed with electronic ignition and fuel injection.

A guy down my way runs one on a microcontroller - Arduino, just for fun. I made an ecu based on a Microchip PIC, ran one of my minis quite well, two injectors, completely ignored the naysayers that said the mini robs fuel between cylinders due to the siamesed inlet ports.

Back on topic - not going to be adding electronic ignition, changing the motor or anything. Best this thing might get is a newer carb. Until then, I’m chasing the problem on this and trying to get it to start!

I'm not sure of the type of carb on your crawler but if it has a brass float have you checked to see if it's got a hole in it?

Copper float. Worthwhile idea to see if it floats! Im considering anything. The needle valve had a washer under it which was making the flow of petrol higher. I’ve removed this, now there’s not any backwash of fuel in the air intake but the tractor won’t start. Most frustrating.

is there space to adjust the lever that moves the needle , some are bent to a certain distance off the face , this may be the case , have a chat to the owners group , or see if theres a rebuild manual on the carb , zama and the likes use this system and have a small gauge for setting the heigts.

No there’s no adjustment lever for the needle. I’ll take the carb off again to have another look

its not so much of a lever as the bend you put on the lever ,, hope that makes sense ,,, post a pic if you have it in bits .

Not the same ,,, but you will get the idea from the video , sort of , if the lever bend thing didnt make sense ..

you will need a bit of imagination though.

Carb is at a repair shop. Really cool place stuffed full of old motorbikes, a Lancia Beta and two old guys who were apparently talking about how nobody had walked in with something old and weird in a while. Allow me to introduce myself, gentlemen

Carburettor has been fixed, reassembled really nicely, I couldn’t be happier.

What is annoying is that it still won’t start - it will *almost* start. I can get it to fire 1 to 3 times before it putts out and then the same. Spark is good, I tested the magneto using my left arm fuel is not leaking anymore but fuel/air mix will aggressively pop back out the air intake. I feel I’m close but I’m close to throwing in the towel with it for today.

28 to 30 throu as a start, if memory on similar engine is correct.
Closer if coil pack is old/weak.
