I have a Cletrac HG42. Too fast for dozer work, but I have a model A gearbox conversion kit to fit if I ever get roundtuit - that can reduce the speed to about 1/3rd of its current ’ag’ speed.. Also a set of nearly ‘as-new‘ running gear and a power take off (not sure if it is a belt pulley or PTO) if I don’t expire before getting to it.

Just looked it up - another fun, mini crawler. The Ransomes is tiny but it can still do decent work, slewing just rips plants out. Wouldn’t mind a scarifier attachment for it, as I can’t be doing pushing that around the garden for an hour or two (takes an hour just to mow on the lawn tractor).

Went on holiday to Christchurch. Had a lovely time I must say, and found a vintage shop with all sorts of cool old things for sale. I bought this old-looking lamp, the threads are metric so it could either be more modern or French! I’ll hook up a battery and see how bright it is. Also, the number plate has been mounted

Mildly productive day despite heavy rain. The rain meant I couldn’t take the blue tractor out, the garden is just too wet. I did however buy bolts and used some old timber I found stored in the garden to make a sled for moving hedge cuttings. I was pleased with my design so I decided to take it for a spin, which went well. The orange tractor struggled with this load, it’s really just meant for lawn mowing tbh. When the garden dries up a bit I can start moving bigger loads.

Nah that tractor needs more hp. The blue one lays it’s own roadway, built to pull a plough. The sled has sheet metal from roof capping to aid it from digging in. When the garden dries out, I’ll give it another go.

More fun with the crawler. The trailer is a pain, this is much easier. Wood is kind of on the way out but there’s still some solid stuff there in the big beams, good enough for this one job anyhow. The sled moves huge amounts of material quickly. This will allow it to be mulched (there’s an entire 60m shelter belt worth to do). Ideal work for the tractor really.

I’m not sure if people are bored of tractor pics so I’ll keep posting I suppose, at least whist it’s still working for me. I’ve had it pulling its sled about, moving absolute heaps of branches. Whilst it may not be so so impressive, it allows me to work alone instead of having two people when using the little trailer. The latter has such small capacity that the orange tractor was doing runs almost constantly whilst someone loaded. Knackered me and my dad, this is much easier!

I delivered six 100x100x2400 posts for a new compost bin project by sled, so easy with the machine. Then a quick tidy up with any random bits of branch in the trailer followed by the crap in front of the mulch store that’s been bugging me for months - finally tidy!

In technical/mechanical news, my friend is going to make me a battery box for the small 12v motorbike battery I bought today ($70). I’ll buy a switch and make a little plate for it to control the light by toggle. Something simple to control the headlight and any other lights I might add.

PTO shaft news - two bearings pulled out, RL 10 and 11… hmm they sound like they might cost a fortune. Three oil seals, two of which I managed to buy. It’ll be good to have the bearings oiled (they take the same ep140 that the drives do according to the book). The guy at the motorbike shop said most likely it had been run dry and water got into the box, allowing it to get to this stage. Soon it’ll look shiny and new, and hopefully last another seventy years. Bearings were GB SKF, rather old!
