It sounds like a tough jobbie. I often use 60x40x5cm or 30x30x5 cm pavement tiles to weld on. They really provide a good protection against heat. Maybe you can use them to create a small platform to sit/lean on.
Yeh, if I get many of these to do then IL have to do something or IL end up having to put boots on the invoice

Iv seen many individuals and company's for that matter get complacent, and start turning out bad jobs for top money......I'm proud of the fact that I have more work than I can cope with through, zero advertiseing......Its unfortunately also the reason I cant employee anyone....

Very, occasionally get the odd bit of help, but more recently iv found its better to just sub work out I cant handle, Or work along side a couple of other S/E lads, which is far better........
I like working on my own, that way the buck stops with me, I can pick me hours, and I dont have to check up on people, loads of the smallish people round here have got rid of there workers and become one man bands again, just ended up ether with idiots or finding work to pay there wages type senario.....

just a minute.
If you use my method (312 stainless) you dont need preheat.
I admit I hadnt thought about cutting out old weld but if you use stainless to repair previously repaired buckets you will only need to grind out the cracks/tears.
You have to decide which is easier , no preheat or no grinding out.
Mind you I was in a minority of 1 so being a democrat I disgracefully bowed out. I will be recommending preheat and 7018s in future unless they dont have the means to preheat.

Nice job Mate , can I just add a little here , some adaptor manufactures do not reccomend welding the back of the adaptor !! Cat for instance the weld continues past the the adaptor by around 50mm in a curved off fasion (supposing stress rellife/and or horizontal cracking) their are so many reccomedations /manufactures techniques its unbelievable , a bit of usefull information maybey ?
the moral of this thread is if in doubt ask for the correct welding procedure who you brought the adaptors Off ........

SRG you found us, welcome... Yep the adapters came from ITS track, a TBH there procedure was sketchy to say the least, they were very much bosh it together no preheat job done kinda thing, So I followed the procedure off the Hardox site which I believe you posted up..... Which was about as much info as I could get......
As the adapters looked untouched from the original weld, I followed that as an idea of leg length etc, sometimes you have to d ya best hey..
