Recommend a workshop vacuum cleaner please.

My garage floor always seems to be covered in dust of various types.

I pot a lot of plants up just at the entrance to my garage. It is also near the entrance that I always mix small amounts of sand & cement for a wall job I am working on.

Inevitably cement dust, soil/compost etc ends up in the garage from my boots as I go in and out.

I want to buy a decent vacuum cleaner, that won't clog up after just a few minutes use.

Domestic vacs intended for household use cannot cope.

What do I need-brand/model etc. Thanks.

I bought a second hand numatic NVQ200 (not a Henry!) for £50 a few years ago and it's been rock solid and tremendously useful. Everything from hot lathe/mill chips to sawdust, fine metal dust, and cement, soil and leaves in the garage.

Karcher wd 4 I think it is or k4 we got one to do the last workshop I was in and it done the entire 36000sqft of floor without a bother . Being a cnc compamy that included metal dust laser dust swarf and oils of various types going into it . Our plan was to get enough out of it to paint the floors but it just kept going

I use a standard NV200 (commercial equivalent of the Henry) in the workshop, on site and at home and have been happy wit it so far.

I bought an as new Karcher A2554 model....the owner said it wouldn't pick as well as it did ( prob 3 months old)....
filter full of dog hair and straw in the pipe...
really good vac....
shame their power washers are rubbish.....
def would buy another....only thing I'd like on my next vac is the one with the 3 pin socket on it so when u turn on ur router the vac starts up.....
I beleive the Lidil vacs are very good as well....

Henry. Any one will do a good job.

Any canister vacuum you can get cheap/free. To make the filters last longer wrap a filter bag around them. When the bag is clogged replace it with a fresh one.

I've a Lidl ash special for the price of postage if you want.

I bought a Guild brand one from Argos. £50 and does all I need. Only slight annoyance is the hose is a bit naff but does the job.

I bought a big Titan shop vac from Screwfix ten years ago, £40. It will suck wet or dry, has either paper bags in or just a central filter. And it’s big, about 2’ tall, 18” total width, and on wheels.

And has a device to plug power tools in that will turn the vacuum on when you turn the tool on. Which I hook up to my power saw and sander on occasion.

Just a cheap Lidl wet & dry here. Handles everything from grinder dust to lathe swarf/mill chippings/sawdust.....

Someone gave me a Dyson. It was rubbish. Rivet ends kept getting stuck in the bends.

I inherited a Henry when we moved house. They are awesome. And far cheaper than all the fancy foreign rubbish.
The filtration is 2nd to none. When my Rayburn started filling the kitchen with smoke Henry actually filtered the smoke out of the air!
I recently bought a £40 screwfix Titan cleaner as a spare for sucking up water. It is brilliant for the money.
For dry dusty stuff a Henry. For wet stuff and oily swarf I use the Titan.

I have one of these I'd sell. Has the dual motor and dry filter but you can buy the wet float inserts for them. Comes with hose and silver wand thing.

it’s bomb proof and has a massive amount of suck, and the large diameter hose means it doesn’t get jammed up.

Smoke filtration would be down to the type of bag material, I’d think.

I have an old single speed Henry, which has its uses, easy to carry when doing domestic diy etc, but I use the bigger Titan as a ‘static’ vac in the workshop.

Says dry only but it would for sure work with a wet filter just that the bin is very small it'd only hold about a bucktefull.
