Recommend me a workshop heater

I had to look it up as I wondered. How come a 5kw heater runs off a 13a supply for example.

Apparently it’s co efficient of productivity. Who knew. A bar heater had CoP of one. At best. So 1kw in = 1kw out. A air source heat pump is 4 so 1kw of electricity produces 4kw of heat.

That’s how I interpreted it anyway. Every day is a school day!

That is on paper - not so clever in typical British conditions!

He is spot on!
I know 3 people with them - huge electric bills! Give me oil or gas any day. Until we have mass nuclear with cheap electric and then I will happily switch.
Electric 22p per kw/h - oil and gas around 3 to 4p per kw/h - that is FIVE times cheaper!

As the old sayings goes " there is no such thing as a free lunch" and " you don't get owt for nowt" ( excuse my accent failure) . Lets wait and see what nuclear fission brings. Unfortunately I don't think many of us have that long left.

Yes and no.
With heat pumps you can in theory get 3kw out for 1kw in as it gets the extra energy from the air or ground.. But depends on weather. The colder it is outside the worse it gets. As you tend to use heating when it is cold the efficiency drops off massively.

i had an interesting conversation on Tuesday with my next door neighbour who gleefully told me he was having a H/Pump system installed next January. Big savings and a gov. grant what is there not to like ? I asked him how it works as I really cannot get my head around it."Oh it's simple ,it just extracts the heat from the air." I said " what, even when it's below zero? " " yes of course" Hmmmm We shall see. Strangely enough he just happens to work for some Eco company and is supposedly involved in installing these magical wonders. By the way I have just invented a perpetual motion machine .If you want to invest please send used bank notes to Conny Mann in deepest Africa.

Bought a secondhand one of these. Got it for a decent price too, collected today and tested it out and I’m toasty warm again. Bonus is the local BP sells red diesel.

I've got an 8kw (that's Chinese watts - think they're more like 5kw). I've got it installed in a log cabin garage with concrete floor 6m x 6m. With 5C outside temp it takes about an hour to raise it to 16C at which point it throttles back. 0C outside it will struggle to reach 16C.

I run it off heating fuel (28s kerosene) which was about 35p (now more like 55p) litre but still very economical.

Can I ask where you’re getting those prices please? Cheapest KeromI can get is 34 quid for 20 litres. Ta.

Try GB fuels in Erdington, 74p a litre at the pump according to their website.

I'll be trying them when I run out of diesel....

Yep, 20 litre drum, 34 shekels. Only local place that does it.
Will try GB Fuels.

That's for central heating kerosene, doubt it would be that price to have 20l delivered though.

The cheapest way to purchase kero/red diesel is join a buying group, most of the suppliers will get you on board with a deal and then leg it up. They dont mess with the buying groups.

Its used to be that orders over 2250ltrs or 500 gallons of gasoil/kero attracted the 20% vat and under that it was 5%
