I pulled it out gave it a blast with the pressure washer and left it on the grass while i bathed the kids. I'm sure it started rusting again so its better in the tank until i can sort it.

You use the pressure washer on the kids?

Flash rusting, give it a spray with WD-40 or similar after blasting it.

This is how it looks after a blast with the pressure washer. The handle and jaws will need some more work.

Good result. The remaining paint should be oft as well.

Pressure wash the cathodes off, they will be good enough to use again. The liquid can be used as a weed killer, or just dumped down the drain.

What's left will shift with ease with a wire brush in a drill or a hand one.

Now, you need another tank set up to derust those anodes....then another to derust.......oh, hang on.....

Added some paint today.

Tried to clean the handle up, its a mess.

Nearly finished just need to try and straighten the handle, maybe i should replace the jaws if i can get the old ones off.

Leave the jaws as they are, if they are working.
They should come out, but why run the risk of messing a smart job.

Yep will leave as is for now. Much better than the crappy vice i had.

Then a spare just in case, then one to do up and sell to fund the purchase of a better one. so the old crappy one can be restored.

Do you plan a reinforcing plate underneath when fixing it to the worktop? If BFH work is envisaged, that glued top might object......

There is going to be a plate under the wooden top maybe one on top also? Currently struggling getting the legs square on the second bench.

I'd leave the jaw inserts alone. They'd need to be pretty much shagged to cause a problem.

Those ones with the Patent No on them are really old. I never worry about getting the rust off from the tommy bar as they get so much use sliding through it eventually cleans itself, and gives a nice patina rather than gleaming steel.
