if your really really worred about things flying off when snatching just put a catch chain on it
Had one of the trained chimps the aa let drive their recovery wagons try to winch my disco on with a strap looped round the axle and over the steering bars in such a way that pulling was bending the steering, when asked to use the recovery points on the front bumper he started waffling about them coming off. I told him that being as they are 15mm eyes, welded to 8mm plate in turn attached with high tensile bolts at multiple points to the chassis, if they came off itd bring the front end of the motor with it anywayI own a recovery truck, extra lifting strap on snatch block is the normal.
When doubling winch cable up and pulling cars out of dykes, the standard practice is to attach the snatch block to the vehicle towing eye, and then as "dannyp" suggested add another loose lifting strap to the snatch block and the lower wishbone, when the (or if) the towing eye lets go, the strap catches the snatch block.
I have had allot of screw in towing eyes let go over the years. Best plan is to get hold of the wishbones and forget the towing eye (but this can be a muddy choice sometimes).

Mines a tdi, or at least it started off life as a discovery tdiI have a TD5 Disco 2 (2004). I hate the thing!
and the winch bumpers that don't fail if abused cause an even bigger problem

we are talking pulling a free rollin disco onto a flatbed, not a heavy tow, and like I say the recovery points on the disco are exactly that, recovery points, not just a towing eyeWhen I did rally recovery I never used the towing eyes they had to have fitted, I always used chains round something substantial underneath to winch on. I only ever used the towing eyes for a straight flat tow to the end of the stage.
What you mean Danny, please - I dont follow. cheers.
