Speaking to a mate who does some lovely work and he uses tig with the same technique that I use for oxy welding and then blues the panel and uses his flipper to work out the low and high spots so might give that a practice and see how that goes.

Need to tidy this up a bit before it's welded in.

TIG welding is essentially the same as Oxy welding but with different gas?

Sort of I suppose, one has a flame and the other an electric arc.

I tried tig welding a car panel a few years back and got loads of distortion due to the heat input so never tried it again. I was also told that it creates a harder weld but this may be BS and a wives tale. So it’s more about knowing how to control the distortion with tig, plannishing the welds etc. Tig is a nice easy process, especially if not using filler wire so will give it a practice and see how it compares to how I oxy weld.

I think it's the filler rod that hardens the weld,fusing the pieces if possible should result in a weld area of the same quality as the parent metal, or I could be talking rubbish

ive seen both metal heated enough between each other so they fuse together as one piece using the oxy set up was nice to actually see it done as well

nice looking builds there also noted the gabbo bender that you used as well

Finished the welding tonight, still need to tidy it up but happy how it's turning out. Did a trial fit and all good. Not going to be in the workshop for a few days so gave it a coat with gal spray.

Been away in Englandshire working but had some time on the weekend to crack on with the floor. Holes drilled and and just the inner sill to plug weld. I'd forgotten how much of a pita weld through primer was to weld through. Looking forward to finishing the floor and onto the next bits.

Started making the repair panel for the OS lower bulkhead panel this afternoon. Probably use this one as a template and make another which hasn't got such a sharp edge.

Yeah no worries, I am just a part timer but my favourite is the metal forming stuff. I’ve got quite a bit to do on the car so will try and post a bit more about how I go about things as well.

Re-did the panel so it was a smoother transition. Took some better pics to show how I shaped it on my sandbag. Didn't get any pics showing using my wheeling machine or stretcher though. Just need to remove the old section now and finish getting the fit spot on.

Struggling to get any time at the workshop, hopefully this weekend. Had an hour tonight so started cutting out the old rust section. Will finish that off and tidy things up then finish fitting up the new repair section.

Getting a bit of time at the workshop to work on the Amazon. Cutting out the front NS cowl and the inner wing. The inner wing had been replaced previously but they'd just welded it over some of the older one so there were corrosion issues between the two surfaces. Going to be a bit of work to sort it all properly.

Prepping the inner cowl. Welded on a flange to the A pillar, originally Volvo spot welded a strip/flange over the cowl to connect to the A pillar. I used 2mm. The repair panel looks like it will fit pretty nicely, will have a play with my old spot welder and see if it work well enough to use on this panel.

Also did a couple of small repairs. There's some rust under the inner wing so I might have to do more repairs than I thought.
