Rigging airlines in workshop

I currently have a 300l compressor, feeding one retractable airline via a perished rubber hose that needs replacing.

I’d like to rig up a better set up with a second air line running from opposite end of tank to workbench to incorparate a coiled airline. I have two separate Norgren regulator / filter setups to fit in each line.

What is the best way to pipe up the workshop? Previously have used rubber air hose cut to length with brass hose rails and jubilee clips - is this acceptable or should I be looking at something better? Pre crimped hoses perhaps?

Well yes itmight seem obvious to many but there is a difference between a small amount of air at least say 4 bar and a large amount of air at 2 bar surely?

I am not sure you realise but I am asking genuine questions.
What could you use instead of small air?
Low pressure air.
Or Low volume of air.
You seem to dislike questions (which I thought was actually the point of the forum) asked after you make comments that you find it funny. It's probably because you seem to understand things you say but I don't.
Not sure if others do understand?? Perhaps someone else might clarify what they understand relating to pumps, pressure and volume.

I value system volume, I realise continuos compressor capacity doesn't change but tank/system volume may get you right around a spray job or run nut guns longer without the need for a larger compressor. The compressor in the yard is only 14cfm but with the tank volume and associated pipework its got a decent enough capacity to do everything I need of it, the 14cfm on its own would be no good at all.

If I had a larger capacity tank, it could run longer and finish more jobs without pausing. Every time it's paused it also uses air as it can't just stop hot without damaging things. The alternative is a compressor with bigger pistons and motor which could provide more air than the plasma uses, so it would just kick in and out without having to pause the plasma. I'm working on that!

I’ve just put one in the truck off a lorry. Will wire the T-Max up to it to let me do a plant tyre without flogging the poor little thing.

Now that confirms my understanding.
I was more interested as I have just purchased a small upright portable compressor but I still have part of my workshop plumbed from the large 150 compressor tank that the compressor threw a rod.
I also have a 200 tank that the compressor on it was good but needed new bearings.

I wondered what I would gain if I plugged the small compressor into the original pipe work and just added my new retractable airline

It's just for blowing swarf away for now. But once I blow 3 times the small compressor pump runs.

I am hoping to fill the 200 litre tank and get a lot more blows before the small compressor kicks in to refill.



That's my new compressor my small stop-gap Ferrex blew up and they refunded me instead of giving me a new one ,as they had none left.

it will take longer to fill but will give u a reserve of air to run tools a bit longer at high pressure just not constant

The compressor would kick in less often, but would have to run for a long time to fill a 200 litre tank.
This would possibly exceed the duty cycle of the compressor.

Yeah I am concerned about that. But I was hoping in my case I can set a cut off switch for a lower pressure than it would need if it was just filling the small tank to a higher pressure?

As I say my current interest is to clean swarf with an air gun. Every 2 mins or so..
I have these two.





(Both much older) I am repairing.
I would have purchased a new compressor unit. But I did that and it lasted 6 months. It was blowing oil out the filler and it was hidden in a sound proof boxed in section.

Ok mate. That's a very useful reply and great information . I will suffer the repeat fills and turn down the cut off pressure.
But I won't bother plugging it into the system. Thanks.

yep never noticed it was that small it would probably kill it direct drive as well that dont help

I don't know what machine you want to clear swarf from, and I don't want to try and teach you to suck eggs, but clearing swarf on a lathe or milling machine (for instance) using compressed air can cause serious issues and is frowned upon. Swarf can get stuck under slide ways and way wipers and cause horrid wear rapidly.

I admit that I do do it on occasions, but am extremely careful where I direct the air, and always brush off first with a hand brush to clear the majority of the debris.
