Roll cage welding am I ready??

These are the same people that have a heart attack if you TIG a cage because 'the welds are too small'.....

Can't braze a cage even though it's technically better either because they can't inspect it....

at the risk of dragging the "too stiff chassis" arguments over 2 threads ... weren't Rally and track cars braised up when they talked of them being "seam welded"? ( back when every garage had oxy set and MIGs were exotica)

All the single seaters were brazed as they were tube, saloon car shells were seam welded.

Brazing was fairly common for 'seam/stitch welding' too, some no doubt favoured one over t'other. This really belongs in the other thread but that's off on other tangents now anyway so... http://www.doublegmotorsport.com/rsprep/01-Body%20Shell.pdf

With regards to what processes are allowed i suspect a lot of it is based on keeping things simple and/or from recommendations from those that do do know what they're talking about... go and ask a welding machine manufacturer or someone like TWI for info and they'd probably have stick/MMA towards the bottom of list for lots of reasons with regards to welding rollcages much like TIG would be at the bottom of the list for say structural steelwork. This then gets dumbed down/simplified when the rules are written

Thanks for all the comments lads..!! I do have a mig welder I can use well but I feel more comfortable Arc welding and for some random reason I prefer Arc welding..

I'm getting quotes on how much it will be for someone els to fit it now

Your doing the right thing there mate too often people ask for advice and get there nose put out of joint when they hear the truth. Well done for going down the right route
