At least your ways look to have been properly scraped (or at least, scraped). My Warco version of this machine had the vee ways fettled with a 9" grinder.

Been lucky with this one. Ways are all good once I'd cleaned the gunk off. No slop and no tight/loose spots.
Have some damage the very far end of the leadscrew but other than only being able to screw the nut on from one side it won't effect anything.
Fix a broken handle and new belts. I won't mention the table damage.
Bargain really.

Will make a start on the new handle to raise the head later.
Donkey saw did a tidy job on the 60mm bar.
Bore it out. Drill and tap for the locking screw tonight. Tomorrow il cut the flat bar into a better shape and weld it on. (Possibly tap and bolt) to bend or not to bend is the question.
Got a load of skate bearings kicking around for the other end if I'm feeling motivated.

Not finished and not pretty but I'm learning
First quarter of weld was a bit dubious but improved as I went on. (Actual welding time probably 3/4 of an hour max mig and a few hours stick as a teen so don't judge me lol)

Tapped for grub and reused existing handle also tapped.
Fell out with the neighbours over using a thicknesser for an hour yesterday (apparently they couldnt hear the tv but my wife was home and barely noticed.) so cut roughly to shape on the donkey saw for now.
If I get an early finish this week il cut the radius each end and take a grinding disk to the edges to round them out.

first time boring on the lathe too. Nice fit and no issues.
Had a reamer either side of the size required so got close with a drill and took the extra 1.3mm off with the boring bar.

Few niggles to sort out on the lathe now it's actually been used but pretty good for the most.

It's noisy but not wood chipper hydraulic breaker noisy. Rarely get time to do much at home.
Worst over the last few months has been a bit of wire wheeling on the drive with an angle drill so not particularly noisy.
Next weekend I've decided to make the new cabinet for the mill. I could use the donkey saw but the 12" stihl is so much noisier.

Retired couple. She had obviously been moaning and he decided to sort it out. Appologiesed and explained it wasnt an everyday thing but that wasn't good enough for him. Lost my rag in the end and suggested perhaps he can stop his dog waking everyone up at 11 pm every night when he let's it out. He then got a bit narky and squared up to me in my doorway. Asked him to leave but kept at it. Thankfully wife heard it and opened the door so just walked away. Try not to get into fistfights with pensioners if I can help it.

Recon il be buying my wife the subs she wants for her stereo this week as long as she promises to dig out my old rave and jungle cds and crank it up...

Still fuming hours later.

Oh. He suggested he was going to report me for running a business from home.

Good luck with that. Ain't gonna earn much money working from home. All my works in people's houses. Just tool storage and some office work at home.

Leave the handle like that, and get the mill sorted. Use it to round the ends...

True. I did consider it.

I'm in a large village. We have a shop and the bus comes once a week.
Still to many people for my liking. Spent most of my childhood on a non working farm.

Would love a house in the sticks with a small barn.
One day. Once the kids are all in school and wife goes back to work.

Yeah we've got a woodchipper, man that thing roars, 2" capacity which is fine as I just store and burn anything bigger.

You meet some right idiots out and about - first place we moved to was a 'rural subdivision' here, turned out it was just the same crowd from England cashed up buying large plots of land to build big houses and behave the same as on the estate... Dad had issues with someone parking a massive campervan on the council grass out the front, and I didn't like walking my dog as although it was a nature reserve there were people who thought they were exempt from the 'dogs must be kept on leads' notice and let they staffies kill the birds and one bit a kid, it was horrible. Silver lining was dad losing his job and we had to move away, now we live in the middle of nowhere, I can drill at 1am if I like and nobody will complain because they'll never hear!

Nope fits fine left to right.
As it is in the previous pics above I could mill fine with the jaws open 80mm or less. The front bolt slot fouls the coloum at that point.

Left to right I can align the working space nearly in the center of the table.
Recon it's worth keeping for the odd large bit but il continue looking for something a tad smaller.

Won a nice one in November but the seller was arkward and wouldn't arrange a collection date.

Looked at those. Don't think my table will be big enough to make use of them though other than left to right.
Watching a perfect little vice atm so hopefully sorted on that front.

Milling vices like many tools............you need a selection!

Finally did a little milling.
Popped a step in a keyway a few weeks ago. Was a few mm so didnt bother changing the pulleys and ran it slow.

Managed to adjust the belts this evening (someone bodged welded bit on the tensioning bolt)
Now were popping fuses with the inrush with the higher speeds
I could wire in a 16 amp supply but long term will be swapping the motor for 3p and utilising the lathe vfd for both.

However did manage to start squaring off a cube to make a lathe bed stop.
Good finish and no chatter. Hapily munched 1.5mm off some mild.

Now how do I hide buying 2 motors in one month from the wife.
