Today I got to spend some quality time with the car and the roof. I decided that I would release the roof from the mould which did give a little fight but luckily the time spent waxing made it eventually release cleanly and easily.
With some help I carried the roof over to the car and placed it on, until the car is painted the roof will just be paid on the top and will be bonded on later. Currently this is how the roof is prior to trimming.
Some careful trimming and quite a lot of time left me with the roof looking really good, there is some smoothing required but nothing major needed and then the carbon will brr going on.
Once the roof was trimmed and sitting on the car I spent some time with my other half cleaning all the dust and rubbish out of the interior and now it's now ready this week for the paint to start going on. Would be some exciting progress being made over the next few weeks

With the time of assembly drawing nearer I decided to have all the bolts and fixings acid stripped and zinc plated. I have to say considering they are 10 years old they have cleaned up very well and look almost new. Only issue I have right now is every bolt for the car is in one large box! So I have had a long evening of sorting, measuring and gauging bolts.
As I just had a stock pile plated those of you with a keen eye will spot one use bolts but don't worry they will be replaced and the old items thrown out.

Make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing with the plating. If I remember correctly it can cause hydrogen embrittlement on HT bolts and, of course, the threads may become tight due to the plating thickness.
Don't want to put you off but we had some screws plated for hydraulic valve blocks some years ago and the heads popped off like bullets when the pressure went on! It was a while ago so it may have been Cadmium plating, thinking about it, but it may be worth a check.

Cheers for the advice, this is something I will look into, many of the fixings are not HT but I guess some of them will be.
It was a place who specialise in re-plating and plating so I am hoping that they know what they are doing, when I go back there next week with other parts I will ask the question as I am not sure of the answer and it will be good to know.
I thought that the threads would be tight too but they do seam to go together very nicely and there doesn't appear to be any galling or binding

So... guess its somewhere close now... not really sure what I will do when this is finished and the realisation the soon the shell will be finished really feels a little odd after working on it for a few years. I have assembled the sub frames ready to bolt on and have lots of new shiny parts laying around ready to go on.
The interior of the car has been fully painted and is done and now the car is sitting in the paint booth ready for the last coats to be applied. Seeing the car masked up made me for the first time realise how small the windows really are :lol:
Managed to get the tyres fitted to the wheels today in the morning so I now have everything I need to assemble the car and have it rolling
Well time for several shots around the booth; you will notice that everything is masked up ready and where burnt the seam sealer has been applied
Really pleased but very apprehensive of actually having the car back for assembly

its going to be cold as even though I have a triple garage I will be assembling it outside unless I can find a way of stacking everything in one garage or telling the other half her car now has to be parked outside... Thank god the beetle and classic mini are not stored here at the moment as that would be mad. Let hope next week leaves me with a rolling car

knowing that the car is now painted is a good feeling and I decided that I would start opening up all the boxes that I have laying around and start the assembly of the front sub frame.
It started with the fresh powder coated and wax oiled sub frame, which looked stunning.
After pressing in bushes, assembling the re-built steering rack, adding all new bushes and ball joints the frame looks stunning especially as most of the parts are the original re-conditioned. I decided to leave the hubs off as I need to get this to the body shop without killing those carrying it
Going to add the rest once it is fitted to the car
Then after building it I decided that I would start on the first tyre on the pile and paint in the letters as this is part of the look I am going with. I personally love this finish but it did take some time to paint only the letters

That subframe looks really great!....and the waxoil is a very nice touch.
Do you know if there is an equivalent here in the states?...can we get waxoil here in the states?

So here we are with another Saturday coming to an end and another day spent at the body shop working hard on the mini, the day has been good but also some disappointment when I realised the wheel bolts where too short 
Having built the sub frame last week I took it with me along with all the other things (glad my daily estate is big enough)
OH WAIT! forgot to say I am assembling the sub frames because the car is now painted!
Anyway back to some assembly, car was tilted up and the front suspension, sub frame, and hubs all added
Dropped back down on the frame as sadly the wheel bolts I have are too short, really wanted to see the car rolling today but sadly without the bolts this is not happening

So the whole car... well with it not on its wheels but still more complete than it has ever been, well for the last 3 years. Still got to paint the inside of the car which will be done over the next couple of weeks, the cage is painted and I am so happy with how lovely the white paint is of the car. I really want the wheels, doors and bonnet on the car so I can finally see it built.
So much more to do but just look at it :thumbup1: when you think its been 3 years in the making

Well I couldn't wait till the weekend and thanks to a friend giving me longer wheel bolts I popped down the shop and got the wheels on and removed the trolley which the car has been on for so long.
The suspension needs lots of adjusting and is sitting so high because the car has nothing on it yet but this will soon change.
So the car on wheels;
