A man of your skills should be able to knock one up fairly quickly, a basic frame could be bent out of flat plate, within a couple of hours on your pressbrake.

Finished off installing the foot pedal and fired it up.

It lives....

Just the table top and chuck to be fitted now..

Looks good are you going to guard the pinion?, looks like an ideal pinch point for the unwary sleeve.

There's a table top yet to be bolted on approx 22" diameter which will cover all the main cross beam out to the main support frame, so you would have to have some seriously long loose sleeves to get caught up in the pinion.

How are you going to make the earth connection to the table?
A friend thought he could use a brass clamp on the frame only to find he'd welded the taper roller bearings to the carriers .

Another pal used a big block of carbon at the bottom of the table shaft that pressed down on to a brass plate where his earthing was .. it seemed to work well

Probably a sprung loaded brass or copper block in contact with the underside of the main gear, to be honest I've just run out of fag packets for the design ATM....but I'll be sorting that soon...

Prolapse L4/L5 disc which was restricting the spinal cord in the spinal channel. I'd had problems for years just learned to work around it, until...

I saw the head nero surgeon on the 30th Nov, the operation was paid for by the NHS in a private hospital on the 13th Dec.

I was very close to losing the ability to walk and becoming permently incontinent.

The surgeon gave me the direct phone number for the nero surgery department/ward on the 13th and told me "If you have any problems at any time, phone the number and come straight in there will be a surgical team waiting for you".

So l had 5 months off sick, also lost my job while being off and had to find new employment as well.

Hence the rotary table started in Febuary, to stop me from climbing the walls, but most important to get me slowly moving again, an hour here and there depending on my back...

Just read this all the way through, first off this the mother of all positioners, machining works is excellent, glad to hear you are on the mend, I went through the same thing, same discs, could barely walk but no incontinence, flew home from Africa dragging almost both legs, luckily private all the way but still took a while to get back on my feet ( pun intended) but sorry to hear you lost your job, glad you got sorted

Can fully sympathise mucka as I have exactly the same problem but I’m at the numb legs and feet stage not quite incontinent that’s when they said they will operate so lots of physio 20yrs know,cracking build pal am going to attempt one some day very inspirational.

I was never incontinent as such, but due to the pressure on my splinal cord had a few close calls getting to the toilet at times, apparently if the discs compresses the splinal cord enough you lose control of your bowel but the operation is not a guarantee of restoring bowel control or walking again.

Its a!most a year now, I still have some tingling in both feet some times its worse than others, the pins and needles in my legs have virtually gone, my back now feels good but even now I still think about how to lift/move objects even light one.

About May/June last year my back started to get really painful and sometimes one leg would give out, l was sent to the Physio by my doctor, but it made no difference, then l was referred a Muscular Skeletal Clinic by the Physio, who then sent me for a MRI Scan which started the process once the surgeon saw a the scan.

Your doctor can send you for a MRI Scan which will then been looked at by a Nero Surgeon, if l were you l would demand a MRI Scan and being referred further up the ladder for a second opinion. Hind sight is a wonderful thing but it may be time to thump the table for you...

Fitted the table top and chuck, now hopefully over Xmas will get enough time to knock up the earthing system for the table...if l can escape to the workshop....

Its something I've always wanted to own, being involved with hydraulics/rams, plant machines/vehicles and some vehicle customisation. A decent size rotary welding table isn't cheap, so I built one.

PS. Its one of those things that may sit in a corner for a very long time, but an accentual bit of kit for that job. It can keep my floor epco transmission company under the bench for "just that job".

The final bit........

I have finally got around to making the table earth.

A 3/4" copper slug is drilled at the bottom for a spring for contact pressure, plus an earthing bolt, the mounting tube has a cross drilling to lock the slug while installing/tightening the earthing bolt.

With a 25mm cable across to the copper earth clamp boss.

I also now have a round 22 inch off/out cut, so a larger table top can be fitted if required.

Its been a long time coming but just over a year for a project for something to do isn't bad in my books, I've always wanted one "Just to make life easier".

The hound is leaning against the wife's legs looking at me the wife strokes his head, he then walks forward drops the ball on the settee by my legs, the wife says "Its your turn".

I end up throwing the ball repeatedly or taking him out for a walk, while she sits in front of the TV.

She has the fire/tv, the dog has a fur coat and I get cold n wet...hmmm.
