i realize im a little late to the party but this pic caught my attention as i was reading through this thread as im collecting bits to build a 6 wheel drive jimny pickup, does anyone have any info on how the drive train is arranged ?
thanks Andy
never mind i think i have the drive train sorted in my head, jimnys have been hard to find due to covid tax this last year but prices are coming back down to a sensible level again now, although im planning on using a jimny and a half chassis as i prefer coil springs to leaf i still think im going to use an sj body as l like the boxy look compared to the cartoon character look of a jimny, anyway i will start a build thread when the chassis are back from the shot blasters next week, it should look something like thisI can’t even remember where I found that picture, so I can’t help- sorry. Be an interesting build though. I’ve been looking for a Jimny but can’t find one I like. Secretly I want a Kap Landmaster

i did originally think i was going that way but i have folk cleverer than me telling me that is not very strong as the first crown wheel is subject to the torque from both axles and it will go snap crackle and pop in short order , but i have a cunning plan................The easiest( not the best) way to couple a third axle is to get a second diff carrier with just the pinion and mount in on the back of axle two to run off the back of the crownwheel of the diff in front, if that makes sense.

So why flag it up, he won't thank you for it.
I am sure it is more down to the DVLA just not understanding anything out of the ordinary. Chap kept trying to register a Rover SD1 with a 27L Rolls Royce meteor engine - they kept changing it to 2.7LIt's not flagging it, there seems to be a few 3 axle Landies registered as 2 axle for some reason, it seems DVLA can't get their head round a Landy having more than 2 axles
Here's another example...

Registered as 2 axle again and this was built/converted by Boughton

I helped a mate purchase an ex MOD Series III - It was supposed to have an age related plate.1979 - they gave it a 1994 plate which is when it was demobbed.
More to do with them being a conversion after they have been registered. To try and add an axel after registration would probably be met with a re registering bun fight, revenue weights and driver eligibility would also come into question. It's not flagging it, there seems to be a few 3 axle Landies registered as 2 axle for some reason, it seems DVLA can't get their head round a Landy having more than 2 axles

These days you would get a jail term no matter what the reason. No such thing as an accident any moreBy the rules though, these conversions are illegal to use on the road as they are not correctly registered. They should have had an IVA/SVA and be re registered on a Q plate.
Although no doubt you can get insurance for them on a modified policy. Got to wonder what would happen if something serious happened, like taking out some Nuns and disabled children at a bus stop ?
Yes, and don't we know it !These days you would get a jail term no matter what the reason. No such thing as an accident any more
To require an SVA or what ever its called now, is down to a points scoring system, and consideration if it is a major structural modification.By the rules though, these conversions are illegal to use on the road as they are not correctly registered.
