I've had a couple of pairs of the Site prairie dealer boot £42, last a year in work, dead comfy,chealsea boot type, but I do have to put some kind of gel padded insert in all my footwear now, I had something called plantar fasciitis in both feet, that I put down to wearing cheap rigger boots for 12 hours a day while pushing sips through a table router.

I’ve used the dewalt ones however like most safety boots they don’t seem to allow for the toe cap enough so with wider feet I find they rub toes if doing a lot of walking.

I took the plunge and went for the Uvex shoes from screw fix £99 ….. I've been having problems with tired and painful legs and feet at the end of a days work. Probably age related and also my feet have got wider. I thought after reading favourable reports would try them. After changing to the conventional laces supplied instead of the elastic ones fitted I've found them very comfortable. I have also got new socks from M&S which do support. The quality of Uvex is second to none, you get what you pay for.

Sort of slightly off topic, I bought a pair of safety trainer style boots from Lidl, don't laugh I had intended to leave them in the car boot for those odd times when you get a call out but they forget to tell you it is a construction site and to bring PPE. Any way they lived un worn in the car boot for a year or so until two weeks ago when I decide it is too hot to be using my Dickies and I am going to use the Lidl trainers.
Ten days of walking around 12000 steps on average a day and I love them, I am so glad not to have had the Dickies on those days when the temperature was in the high twenties.
I guess what I am trying to say is sometimes cheap boots are not poor quality boots.

I did see them, but only a few pair in the shop and none anywhere near my size. You have to be in early sometimes to get the bargains.

I wear the DeWalt boots. Comfy straight from the box but I find the soles wear down real quick. Not only can I feel the dog ends but I can tell the brand. I haven't had 12 months out of a pair yet. Didn't stop me buying the same again.

I'm going to give Rockfall a try next. They're up in Alfreton. Years back when I couldn't afford CATs or Timberland non safety, casual boots any more I found Rockfall, non safety boots in Makro. Fantastic but they stopped making them and only do safety boots now.

I had some of their site trainer type things, they were very heavy (hopefully that meant because it had decent toecaps and sole protection) but to be honest for me they weren’t that comfy and I gave them away.

I use Timberland workboots. The best I've ever had. I recommend them.

I used to wear Timberlands as workboots,
But £100 a go,
Two pairs was all that fad lasted
Though I think they wore well for 12 months
I tend to wear Go Outdoor Hike boots now,
About £50 suits me,
But only get about 6 months out of them
Horses for courses really.

Blundstone boots and smartwool socks.

Whatever the expense - I spend most of my life standing on concrete floors.

In times gone past I have suffered with plantar fasciitis (Pain in heel pad on foot). Wearing cheap boots with very little support.

I reckon good socks is where it is at... Even if you have good boots a cheap pair of socks will spoil the comfort level.

Another thing is - I bought loads of rubber mats to stand about on - I reckon that helps as well - Even if only it does help keep your feet warm in the winter.

Gone and got a pair of "hoggs dealer boots"

Hands down knocks the spots off the cheaper ambler steels. And still £65 per pair.

Don't get me wrong the first 2 days of break in were hell but now like slippers and still going strong 3months later.

And as @premmington says.
If working in the same area, foam or rubber pads/matts make a huge difference.

We put them down in the milking parlour pits for the farmers to demo. (2 milking 3hrs a time stood on concrete in usually cheap wellies) and makes a huge difference.

Even a cheap kiddies play area set from range/b+m/halfords makes a difference.

Dewalt are bit hit and miss, I'm on my second pair of Dewalt Titanium, best boot I've ever had. They are perfect from the minute you put them on. Some of the other Dewalts are not so good.

My lad, everyone at the farm he works and most in the local Young Farmers wear Redbacks. He has 3 pairs, one for work which are abused to say the least, a newer going out/workshop pair and a pair of non steel for going clubbing and proper out/out situations because some places don't allow steels

DeWalt Rigger 2 boots failed just on 6 months. Stupid bloody detail imo. Just written and complained to DeWalt attaching these photos and the invoice.

Look at scruffs boots at your local cef or similar.
Good comfy boot for not too much dollar.

I've been wearing a pair of Scruffs (can't recall the model) daily fit a few months now. A day or 2 to break-in, since then I've found them really comfy and seem to be wearing well.

Well never again will I buy a DeWalt product. Got an email back last night from "Charlene" at DeWalt. Turns out there's only a 6 month warranty on footwear, it's made by a partner etc. They understand my frustration blah, blah and pointed me at the small print of their warranty.

So allegedly the DeWalt Rigger 2 has "leather uppers". Utter BS that. Look at this mad detail. Under the rubber that's split you can see the leather at the back doesn't meet by design. There is a big, deliberate gap! This gets covered by the rubber outer piece which has vents in through to the boot lining. As far as I can tell, if I'd ever trodden in a puddle that came over the vents, the water would have flooded in.

Wrote back and got more corporate spiel from DeWalt suggesting I contact the seller.

I had anyway after DeWalt's first reply. Contacted TLC Direct, not to complain but to see if they have any more clout with DeWalt. They couldn't have been more helpful. Always are tbh. Great company.

On principle I won't accept a refund from TLC even if offered. It's not their fault but DeWalt's gear not fit for purpose.

I'll update as and when.

For once it's nice to end Friday on a high note. As above I'd written to DeWalt, and gotten the corporate brush off twice.

I wrote to TLC Direct where I bought the boots from, not seeking recompense from them but hoping they would have more clout with DeWalt. First I liked that you emailed to director@tlc... for "complaints".

I stressed I wasn't holding them to account. Straight away I got a really nice email back.

Today I got a phone call from TLC, same guy that emailed me back. They have been onto DeWalt who've admitted a fault with the boots and credited TLC. The guy gave me the option to have a full refund or another pair of boots. I've taken the refund.

I did say that I wouldn't, on principle, accept a refund from TLC if it was coming out of their pocket. The chap seemed genuinely appreciative of that.

So all's good. I've been refunded. In future too I'll go out of my way to use TLC but not DeWalt.

This is a subject pretty close to my heart. I remember when I was younger being told “ always buy decent shoes and a decent mattress because when you’re not in one, your in the other”.
I’ve got pretty wide feet and have found properly fitting and supportive footwear has a massive impact on fatigue and back problems over the course of a full day.
Another point to consider is that all things being equal, the lighter the boot the better as an extra 100g on the foot is like carrying a kilo on your back all day.
Having tried LOTs of boots over the years I’ve settled on a few different boots now for different conditions.

Haix airpower XR3 - use these for building work, anything where I’m doing physical heavy lifting etc. As comfy as walking boots. they’ve been absolutely hammered over 5 years with minimal care and are still comfortable and the leather despite being well scuffed hasn’t split or cracked. Superb boots I can’t recommend enough. Spent the last week in them all day mixing concrete and lifting blocks in snow and sleet and and my feet have stayed warm and dry.

Redback non safety dealer boots- tried Hoggs, bucklers and blundstones, the redbacks are next level comfort. Not quite as traditional looking as hoggs and bucklers but way lighter and more comfortable with better support and footbed shape plus they do wide sizes.Not had them that long so can’t comment on durability. Use this as a convenient pull on boot when in and out the house and lighter duties, general casual mooching around, days in the digger etc.

lundhaggs professional opti high - forestry shell boot. I got these to try for wet winter use in the woods and outside in rough weather. Interesting concept, very light for the type of boot and very waterproof. Warm with 2 pairs of thick wool socks and if they do get wet they dry fast and with no liner just change your socks. Not quite as comfy yet as my regular hiking boots as they are a bit bulkier and stiffer but significantly warmer and more waterproof in tough conditions.

Jallate rigger boots. Great option if you want a rigger boot and don’t venture onto mud or grass. Light and comfy but take quite a while to break in and become really comfy. Can rub your heel during the break in period. Haven’t had any for a few years now but keep meaning to get some lined ones for an easy on off winter boot.

I pretty much exclusively wear bridgedale or brasher wool socks all year now with thorlos extreme cold socks in the depths of winter.
Yep all of that is quite expensive but I’m on my feet all day, all of the above lasts really well so I justify it as not being cheap but it is good value.

It's a great pity with these DeWalt Rigger 2s that the heels have gone. The rest of the boot is perfect, leathers, sole, toe. What a terrible waste. I hate to see ostensibly good materials like this coupled with a bad design.

I'm almost tempted to unpick/debond the rubber piece and attempt a repair. Stitching a leather patch over would be a pig as I guess you would need the shell of the boot to work with but without the lining.


Again, here you can see the "fluffy" white lining directly behind the rubber just above the DeWalt badge.

All in all I think this a deplorable boot design from DeWalt.

Bought a pair of Bolster boots mid December last. One heel is now peeling off. It's the soles though, so soft, about the consistency of a pencil eraser and wears just as quick.

Going back to proper safety boots where you need to suffer for a bit and wear your feet in!

The Dewalts they were selling at Screwfix recently bear no resemblance in quality to the Dewalts i once knew...sole came away and the insides fell apart...taken back and full refund. Same thing happened last year to my mates and he got a new pair no questions asked.
