Sealey trips out

Do try and take a few readings so that you can compare with the new motor, seeing that there is no one on the forum that has that model of unit that is willing to share any info with us. Does that motor have a wiring diagram on the inside of the cover by the way.
I do hope this new motor resolves the problem for you this time Cret.

where can I get capacitors for my compressor , the on started on this thread Part no. H19204510 and /20 , I have been quoted 261 pounds for one and 61 for the other !! Almost as much for the compressor?

Look at the capacitors, they will have a value and voltage rating. You can then match them up.

The smaller value will be a run cap, the larger will be a start cap. Be sure to get caps rated for the correct use.

Hard part is matching the case size, most are common though.

What kind of motor is on yours 65uf and 55uf, could well be a PSC motor as opposed to a cap start-run. are they both white and connected up in parallel by any chance.
Any pics of it ?.

Thats absurd !! You will find the caps you need on ebay no problem, a tenner each or less.

Yep thats the two I have on it , someone suggests cpc I will try there.
Not sure about parallel fitting/wiring each have two wires and different colours.Br and BLK on one and the other is outside just now. There is a resister as well which has taken a heat and now lost .I may have a picture of this yet on my phone. I will take pics and try and upload.

Well chaps - apologies first for the delay since my last post on this thread.

There's been a lot on at home/work lately (new car, lots of fixing stuff on old one, new boat/sold old one etc etc) so I was a bit slow getting the motor sent back to Sealey sorry!

As per previous contact with them, both the tech guys at Sealey (Simon/Dan) and Louise at Proparts Peterborough (where I bought the machine) have been superbly helpful. Louise arranged the courier for collecting the motor (I just had to package it), then I dropped it off with the courier and waited.

That was maybe a week or so ago and this morning I collected the new one from the courier. Sealey obviously appreciated the fact I'd more or less used a whole big roll of duct tape wrapping the box the motor was in so it didn't rip (it's heavy!!), since they sent the new one back in my box again!

Just attached it up now to the compressor, and while I will have to likely wait til morning to know if it's solved the issue (to be certain it's fully cold but with air in it), after trying it with the new motor, the difference in motor startup behaviour is night and day!!

It's my suspicion now that the old one was actually faulty from the moment I had the compressor as it never started anything like as fast or easy as this. You've heard the sound clips - will try and remember to do a comparison one, but it starts effortlessly, with no real perceptible slow start as such. With the old one, even when it did start up successfully, it was still nothing at all like this.

My belief as I'd suggested a few posts back is still that the motor itself would have been ok, but that there was a connectivity fault in terms of getting the power from the start cap to the motor, since it really does start mega fast now.

With my luck I'll walk in the garage in the morning before I leave for work, flip the switch, and it will trip out, so I'm not going to claim yet that it's fixed.
But it's looking as promising as you could get really given how well it starts now.....

On another note - apologies to Eil as I did not manage to take the test readings that you suggested before the old one went back. Sorry not to have managed that after you've been helpful with the details.

Keep your fingers crossed anyway chaps....

And if it turns out ok after a few more tests I'll be back onto those concerned to tell them not how they should have better product quality control or anything like that, but to convey gratitude for their service levels that prevent a problem from turning into a nightmare, and restore a little bit of hope for things like common sense and customer service, as they've been great in these respects.

Well - I left it overnight with about 60psi in the tank and this morning it has started up just as easily and quickly. No difference detectable in the effort needed to start up.

I'm (cautiously) declaring this problem fixed at last, so for my acceptance speech I'm thanking everyone who's offered suggestions & input on here, Sealey themselves, and Proparts where I bought it from.

Also would have been good to know what the fault was on the original motor, guess there won't be much chance of that though.

Yeah, apologies about that chaps, BUT, I think between all the discussion on this thread, the detailed suggestions and things tried and tested along the way, and stuff that was "eliminated from enquiries" etc, I think it's probably going to be a useful thread still.
In terms of the rationale behind each proposed fault cause/fix there's a lot of info on here, along with what worked & didn't, and how eventually the conclusion came back to the motor.

Would have been handy to have the test numbers etc from the old motor, but the fact they also weren't ultimately necessary to resolve the issue (as the behaviour of the motor was sufficient in itself to identify it as probably cause) means the thread might help other people.

Hopefully anyway!
