I went to Scotland in a light weight at the tender age of 14 spent two days in the tae challenge was brilliant but 50mph in an NA diesel was interesting

we left Bedford and stopped at Leicester to buy ear defenders

Back in eighties a good mate of mine bought a lightweight, he intended to use it for trialling. The vehicle was 7/8ths completed, the previous owner having run out of enthusiasm. It was absolutely beautiful. dark blue paintwork finished to concourse standards. V8 rover lump. Alloy wheels. My mate completed it, not a huge amount remaining to be done. However once it was finished, it looked so good he didn't have the nerve to use it in anger. He ended up selling it and and buying a ratty but very serviceable lightweight to use in trials.

ummm never saw it. I have one its been going to wreck and ruin in garden for last 18 years shame realy the chassis is mint on it galvanised . it has a ford 2.0ltr engine in it done up to the hilt 5 speed box uprated springs and dampers bilsteen turret shocks on the back and lowered. it went like hot snot everyone thought it was a Suzuki till I opened it up and left em standing and round corners as well it only did 28 mpg though

Someone I used to know built one, he let his mate try it out .... he promptly rolled it over, it was never quite the same after that. Pity really as it was a nice looking build.

Anyhow, had the time of my life, hardly any sleep, filthy and refuelling the cars from Jerry cans in the back roads of Stokesley in North Yorkshire. Had a love affair with them ever since.

me and bruv were doing a job going through tanton village near stokeseley about that time .a prat in the rally flew past us on a bend slid off and ended in a ditch next to a wall. pulled along side and said haha that will teach u smartass . he didn't look to happy

After all these months and having seen this wee beastie a few of more times around Norwich, parked up in Cromer as I drove through and once out in the sticks whilst I was cycling.

Today, it pulled up at the petrol pumps next to me and I got (socially distanced) chatting to the driver.

It is new start up, soon to be released fibreglass panel kit car on a steel ladder chassis and powered currently by Ford Focus engine and running gear.

The chassis and body work is based on the mid 1950's, series 1 Land Rover with an 80" wheel base that was licenced built by Minerva in Belgium.

I have the man's details. It is a new start up business albeit a very experienced automotive designer, mechanic and laminator making up the team with the steel chassis fabrication out sourced.

I cannot give you the name because I have been asked not to, and their website is not yet active, but there will be a proper product launch (to which I have now been invited) and a press launch in the not too distant future: covid lockdowns permitting ...... and I will keep you guys updated when I have more information and I am allowed to pass it on.

In fact, I have one that I only use as a camera. It is an old one of the wife's and can no longer make calls.
