Settings to run 7018's

i have just bought some 3.2mm 7018's to practice with as I've not had much play time with them in the past. What settings will I need to adjust my Lincoln Ranger to to run them? Is it just the same as 6013's or do I need to alter polarity etc.....?

I don't have the box with me to check but what kind of amps will I be looking at using to burn the without sticking as I believe they are hard to restart! I've just watched Jodie from Welding Tips and Tricks on YouTube and he says to use a course file to remove the blob of slag from the end of the rod to make restarting easier.

I use the same settings as for a 6013....restarting a used rod i just whack it down a bit harder to knock the flux off the very end.

They usually run rod +ve and don't like rod -ve.

Current's about the same as 6013s, maybe a trace more. You have to see how they run and tweak the current to suit. There's almost always a current range on the packet, but it's only a guide.

Restart varies a bit from one brand to another, but generally, they're much harder to restart than 6013, unless you file the end.

3.2 from 100 amps to 130 + depends on brand an what you plant really puts out also position and material. Smashing in works but can be brutal on the flux ( I should personally leaver that one out if its being tested). I usually touch up with a file while still in the stinger but if I am pushing the clock I just pop half burned out to be filed up later when fully cooled. I am not a flicker as I normally give it too much "speed up and stop" and shoot the whole darn rod out the stinger

Most of the time for restarts, I just jab the rod hard into the workpiece to chip the excess flux off, it's rare that it takes too much off.
It doesn't work for delicate work though, and is a big no for tacking!

just another tip, if your about to v-up drag down to establish the arc just don't deposit weld and then quickly reverse to go up without breaking. Most do this anyhow on a 6013 without thinking its just the lo'hy often needs a little more space or you get a crummy start

Watched a bloke using a file he had a seperate bench with the file clamped on the bench and would give it a rub on the file then move to the joint.
That was untill some joker laid a lump of box between the two benches.
