I really like the mass of the American vices. Big square cast slides (yours is steel channel?), thick solid castings. All British vices seem to be designed to the minimum weight, nowhere near as much iron as something like a reed, prentis etc. Apart from the heavy chipping and shipyard vices of course, has anyone ever seen one of these, or would like to have one?
Heres mine a no 24 only thing that lets them down are the poor location of the jaws 2 machine head screws. i ve seen some big uns that are bolted through from the back a far better design imo View attachment 130883

Now mr Wabbit just the man I need sorry its slightly off topic but as you may know my son collects Britool tools, I don't suppose you have any catalogues from the 50-70's?
