Super vice, very similar both in condition and size to mine when found. Found one last week at an antique shop jaws at least 6 inches, beautiful thing far too expensive and what would I do with it?

This charity store is near Swindon, it raises funds for Home for End of Life care.
90% of the time I go there and it is full of stuff what is no good to me.
But the do get some gems in.
This time the Blue hair rinse team there asked me if I was interested in a old vice. I said yes.
The rest is history.

But @dobbslc I do pass many good places to pop in and liberate stuff.

Found another swindens local to me . Fairly honest condition hiding under years of dried grease clamping Bolt has a square nut welded to it, removed to find as expected, rounded off, I'll file to a 3/8 square and make a handle with a socket. Will be painted then listed for sale, what paint are you using for vices?

I used " One Shot " sign painters paint on the Swinden's I recently acquired. It self levels to a smooth durable finish.

I use synthetic enamel, with a bit of linseed oil & turpentine added. It helps it flow, hence avoiding brush marks.

Another one to add to the collection. A nice clean 4" Peter Wright. There's a small misalignment of the moving jaw, but I don't think it's something I'll worry about.

I saw it this morning on Gumtree. It was posted five days ago. Gave the chap a call and he still had it. "Right, I'll be there in 50 minutes," (it was 30 miles away).

Got there and he said "Here it is, we've got your Paypal payment, off you go." "What Paypal payment, I replied?" He handed me a printout of the Paypal transaction. The payee was called Graham Hood, I'm called Graham Spinks

Having been listed for five days he had two callers, both with the same first name, calling within ten minutes of each other

Anyway, fortunately I was the first to call so I emptied my wallet and went on my way with the vice. The other buyer was from Yorkshire, "I thought it a bit strange you got here so quickly," he said. Oh well, all's well that ends well

It's easy enough to shim up the static jaw. It should solve your problem no worry.

Before I post my collection of vices, I have a quick question regarding the jaw screw size on the Record 111 - 114 models. I managed to snap two of them trying to remove and clean the jaws so hoping to fin some replacements.
