Here's my old Sealey 6" that I think I must have had for the best part of 25 years:



It bid break once (ok, so I broke it!) and needed a new nut thing buried inside it, but I had no problem buying a new one. In fact, just as a precaution, I bought two. I have absolutely no idea where the spare one is!

It's still mounted on the bench that I knocked up out of some scrap Hi-Way staging and scaffold planks about 35 years ago.



It's since had a new top made out of 6 x 3.

A bit cluttered I know, but I'm working on it!

I think that the previous owner being a Gunmaker may have something to do with the condition. He was very precise in everything he did.

A little bit chuffed with my latest buy. Especially when I took off the flat faced jaws and found these on the reverse.

My wife and I went to a market today where they were selling a lot of junk. I tried to resist, but went back and got this (broken as the guy said) frozen up Record #0 vice for a fiver. It looks like there was a pin which sheared off on the screw shaft for retaining it to the front jaw. Shouldn't be too hard to fix, and the jaws appear to be undamaged.

Bought this off eBay last week. Strange one. On the face of it it appears to be a mish mash of a manufactured vice with home made bits added. The jaws and the screw could be production, whereas the frame and the guides are very much home made. No makers mark, numbers or casting ids. Any suggestions welcome. Steve.

Actually nothing, she doesn't know about my decision to abstain from acquiring unnecessary tools; so, I don't have to worry about favours being withheld.

Had it apart today. The jaws are most definitely cast, albeit crudely, the screw and tommy bar are manufactured. The rest of it is cobbled together from bits and pieces. The guides are 'riveted' using nails. The nut still has signs of saw marks and the thread was poorly cleaned up after cutting. Obviously well used and loved and can be used in either horizontally or vertically. I've cleaned, oiled, greased and removed burrs nothing more. It'll get used, which is the main thing.

Took apart and cleaned up the little Record #0 and J & S vices a couple of days ago. Need to find a spring and washer to retain the screw on the Record, but finished refurbishing the drill vice with some fresh grease and a coat of paint.

Does anyone know the correct colour for Woden vices? I'm restoring a 186B/4 at the moment to go in the men's shed, the outside was similar to record blue but inside on the nut was a dark blue.

If you rescued it from the scrap bin, what's their problem?

It was the wrong vice in the bin. It was destined to be scraped or broken for parts/bits.
The staff sold it as that, but as a Record. Some how the wrong vice was put in the bin, their lose. My gain.

Don't know the correct colour but had the same issue, it seemed darker blue on the inside, I just mixed my own approximate colour, not sure I was very close to the 'right' shade

Just found this on Ebay with original decal so stands a chance of being the 'correct' colour
