I have a Parkinson Standard "Sampson" 3" sat on the bench does anybody know anything about the ? Were they Good, Bad or Indifferent.

RAF roundel Blue. Or there is a Rattle can for a Ford paint what is close enough.

But why not paint it the colour you want?

Are the hilmor a rebadged Record pipe vice, they do look almost identical? Any I see online are plain black which I don't like. I might go for red, it would be a nice contrast to the blue vice.

Yes sorry light was bad but Samsonia Model 35

Samsonia were the cast steel versions of the Parkinson "Perfect" Cast Iron vices, so pretty good: I'd rank them up there with the Fortis or the steel (and British-made SG Iron) Records of similar size.

I'm almost certain we had a red Hilmor pipe vice at work, maybe 30 years ago.

I'm biased somewhat, but IMHO, you'll not find any better quality than a Parkinson.

I don't need another bench vice, but certainly would go a few rounds with the competition if a Parkinson 4" Model A Ball Base Vise was to come up for auction.

Been following some auctions for Nippy vices lately. They seem to go for stupid money.
Then I saw this Jones & Shipman variation, and a shaking finger pressed the buy it now button before I could rationalize that I do not need another vice. It is nice though.
Think I might need to go to a viceaholic meeting, if there is such a thing ?

Best packing of any vise/vice purchase I've had.

You piqued my interest with the Nippy vice so I finally got under the work bench and dug out the one I have had for donkeys years. It is made by Murray & Son London. I think I got it along with other tools when a friend who was a gunmaker passed away.
Just looked on that Auction website and are people really paying £75.00 for one ?

You piqued my interest with the Nippy vice so I finally got under the work bench and dug out the one I have had for donkeys years. It is made by Murray & Son London. I think I got it along with other tools when a friend who was a gunmaker passed away.
Just looked on that Auction website and are people really paying £75.00 for one ?

Yeah, and some are paying even more for one. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I found out that the little Wiltons (like in my avatar) are going for upwards of $500.oo

Excellent idea for a vice used in some production process that doesn't justify the extra cost of a quick-release (suits tight-fisted factory owners).
Would also be useful in general work, where there's a natural limit to how much force you can put on it even with both hands.

It is an interesting idea, but as you say, a bit niche..bit nautical as well

Well here is the one that has been sitting under the bench for ages.

The only differences I can see to the Jones & Shipman are that the jaws are attached with screws from the bottom, and that the J & S has a smooth faced movable jaw.
Funny, but mine has a small drill mark in the same location as the Nippy, lol. Yours is in great condition compared to what I've seen offered on the bay. One thing I'd like to do in the future is find an old unplated 3/8" drive socket, turn it down to fit, and weld it into the knurled handle so I can use a ratchet to tighten the vice.
