Many life forms use Gold leaf. I am just the only one on here to openly use it.No-one but you uses gold leaf.
In fact I bet that there are some who have smoked it.
As long as you do not put it on food.

and here's my bling --- only nickel plated, but small enough to wear on a nickel plated chain at about 9ozs with 1in (brass) jaws.
it's sitting on top of my 1880/90s Parkinson 9 (7in jaws, 120lbs - shown before) - they're both quick release, but v different.
i'm a cheapskate, so the Parky and all others i have cost under £50 (or so), and the smaller ones under £25 (not done any buying of vices for a year or two, (except broken at 4 for a tenner as shown this summer) but the titch cost a little more
i thought it was a true one off -- demo of idea or such -- but i recently bought a St Etienne Manufrance catalogue from 1912 and there it is -- full size
Available 2.5in Jaws, 9lbs ; 3.25, 17lbs; 4, 30lbs
qr works by lift off pull or push drop turn (which moves front jaw)
Obviously I'd love to hear if anyone has one or knows more.

Picked up a Parkinsons No6 locally today (it was quite cheap so I couldn't just leave it, I had to give it a good home.. .
I might take this one apart & give it a good clean/ oil (not taken a Parky apart before so if anyone has any hints or tips please do shout up
).
Also, a couple of questions for the Parkinsons experts on here:
This one doesn't have Made in England cast into the side of the sliding jaw - does that denote early or late production ? Also the quick release handle looks different, is this a replacement do you think ? (It's quite nicely done, so i'm not fussed either way).
Also note the brass inserts on the fixing bolt holes, not seen that before either..
All input welcomed.

brass inserts by owner? . nice touch
Looks like a replacement qr lever (sometimes the cast lever snaps), but well done, even maybe better, or was it a Parky improvement because of such breakage?

To what end?Is it to reduce transmitted shock when using the BFH on something?
It means there's less play between hole & bolt, & if it's a fully threaded bolt, it's sleeving the threads. Plus, the flared top crushes down & acts as a washer.
They're not essential, but the less gap you can have between bolt & hole, the better. Rarely are the holes exact diameters.

Yeah, I just wondered about the Made in England being cast in as on my older type No8 Parky (the second gen' type without the bolt through jaws) that doesn't have Made in England cast in so my reasoning was, does this perhaps make this an earlier example of the bolt through type & they put Made in England on later ? (dunno just guessing).
The QR lever is nicely done but I haven't seen another like it (i've been googling), so maybe it is a replacement for a broken one.
I've been doing some dismantling (first Parky I ever took apart). Utter joy to dismantle, nicer than the Fortis i've done, lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon
. There was some proper muck in it !MattF not sure if the hole inserts are Copper or Brass, how do I tell ?

Sliding a file down through should give you an indication. Copper has a lumpy dragging feel when filing, brass smooth and easy.

I've seen copper, brass or aluminium sleeves used to allow bolts smaller than the drilled hole to be used. Many years ago when on my tools and fitting out a workshop for the MoD, we had to drill holes in the bench to take vices and then ream the holes in the bench and vice to ensure a good fit.
