No Mike, I don't own a press. The small vice is sold with those raised jaws for making nuts or bridges.I have a vice just like the orange one in your photo. I presume you have a drill press ? If so, I have a clamping tip for you if it has a square or rectangular table ?
Ok. Seeing that vice reminded me of a clamp device that was on a drill press in Metal Shop when I was in Junior High School. I eventually duplicated it on my own drill press. It is a simple frame that has a close but not tight fit on both the table and vice, so when you give it a slight twist it binds the vice to the table quite well. I think I posted this once before, but here are some photos which should be self explanatory. Keeping tension on the end of the screw handle stops it from moving. No Mike, I don't own a press. Yeah, its worked great over the years; and with pressure on the screw handle it keeps the vice firmly down on the table, as the work in the vice can tend to lift when retracting the drill bit if the flutes get choked up.That's a neat idea, would stop the vice being spun in the event of a catch but still leave full mobility over the entire table.
Nice idea, never seen it before. Always used T bolts to hold vice to beds.Yeah, its worked great over the years; and with pressure on the screw handle it keeps the vice firmly down on the table, as the work in the vice can tend to lift when retracting the drill bit if the flutes get choked up.
Nice --- looks like it might swivel? The latest acquisition. It is a Garant 125L. I always fancied one of these moving rear jaw vices. This came with the swivel base and is in perfect condition. No great age to it unfortunately but a cool thing. I might actually install and use this one!View attachment 361504View attachment 361505View attachment 361506View attachment 361507
Millers falls are famous for their high quality handrills
they made few vises, originally they sold goodall-Pratt vises however also sold their own, I have two No 18, a mohawk shelburne and a V line, both are very high quality marples copies and personally I believe they are better

If price is right it’s only a 2 inch jaw and looks a bit rough
Got a surprise delivery today. Wow that was fast, and I like the way the vice was packed, with plastic bottles jammed to the shape in the box and then the air tight cap's shut; superb ! The vice has got some great patina and has had some honest use, but not abuse. I sent a message to the seller asking about its history and got a reply saying that it was part of his uncle's collection, which he had acquired locally ( Lincoln ?) and that he had this particular one for a number of years. The vice has three inch wide jaws, and they operate smoothly almost to the end of opening, so I think a cleaning and relube of the screw & nut is all that's needed. Here are a some photos for size comparison with a Record size O and a Parkensons ball base vice.View attachment 362941View attachment 362942View attachment 362943View attachment 362944
I did buy it, so will post a few pics when it shows up and pull it apart, paid $32 for itParky also made v small demo/display vices of brass, but I guess this was originally a 'sparkless' -- but not now with the drilled out and replaced steel Jaws just where the sparks would occur.
Sometimes you also get vices of Al alloy, Zn alloy or Cu alloy (all easier to cast) like this, if someone takes a steel vice to pieces and uses the parts as a pattern to cast their own - (still have to machine steel nut and screw). So be aware. I think I have one of this kind (not a Parky), also in brass and have seen a few copy vices in alu or zinc. These copy vices will be slightly smaller due to shrinkage, so a brass copy of a 2 1/4in 00 size might have 2in Jaws. Some of these copies are fine things, some as rough as xxxx.
That Fortis is lovely, and I also think that Parky Ball Vice is a cracking bit of kit - never seen one of those before either!Got a surprise delivery today.
