If it had been under £50, I'd have done the 4.5 hour round trip!

With how uncommon they are, even at a higher price, it would have been worth the trip.

I was hellishly lucky with mine. Not too far away, & I spotted the stand in the background, (it was being used as a potting bench), & the seller agreed to sell that too.

More expensive and nearer, and id agree. If I didn't already have the swivel jaw prentiss, I'd have been even more keen.
But, it's sold.
Not sure how I missed it to be honest. I've been keeping an eye on all things vice for about a month!
Running out of space too, unless I start putting them places they can't be used.
Maybe I could have sold the prentiss and kept everything British. But then I planned to sell the 3 jaw fortis once the fixie was done and I can see me changing my mind and keeping them both.

I was trying to come up with an easy to use, rotating vice station that doesn't take up to much space.
Might keep the record on the bench as I beat on that, then have a 3 jaw and a swivel jaw, top and tail, on a rotating stand. Keep the ball base and multi position at the other end of the bench....
Then sell the fortis 3j!!!

I’m sure it’s some of the fun for you pressbrake but it’s like looking at an iceberg in national geographic. They are so big I can’t really visualise the proportions! I take it that’s a full size pallet right?

Yes it is! Lighter than I hoped, I think foundry told porkies about the weight as you pay moulding time and material weight

I thought my 112 has heavy at a bit over 30kg.

The ball base Park'ee is a keeper for me. Mounted on the corner of a tool cabinet, I find it just perfect for smaller work. The Swinden's Is another keeper, which I mounted on a height adjustable steel table I was fortunate to acquire.

At the moment I don't have another bench or a place to put it, but will eventually fabricate one and mount my Record Auto-Vice and perhaps another one on. Four should more than satisfy any future needs. As for the rest, I really need to downsize.

Clive might be disappointed but Google still says heavier than a baby elephant! Yikes!

He really needs to put little diagrams in the corner like in children’s books about dinosaurs showing how big things are next to a person!

I thought his Blanchard looked like a nice little machine until I realised you can sit inside it!

I'd seen one of these Colchester work benches before, and when I spotted it on ebay I quickly made an offer. The only thing missing is the drawer, which I can fabricate. The top I sides of the table are made from steel plate about 5mm thick, and can be rotated as well as being adjustable up and down within a range of about 12" for a comfortable working height. The springs are of a coiled ribbon type, and there is an electric socket supplied on the column for convenience. I only took a few photos. The first is of the opposite side of where the vice would be, second shows the bracing under the table, and 3rd & 4th show the spring assist mechanism for lifting and lowering the table, which is locked or released by the tommy bar on the square column.

Would anyone have any suggestions on how i should or could reattach the two slides on this marples vice, the vice is otherwise in great shape.

We're they originally just pressed in? I'm assuming the fit is now a little loose, would bearing retaining compound work?

they would be tight if I hammered in, was thinking of heating up front jaw, hammer in and letting cool, maybe lead to fill in behind

Knurl or pin punch the rod ends.

I'd do the same as @MattF , knurl the guide rods, and then carefully press fit in.

I've got a damned heavy (about 50kg I think) big lump of a Parkinson No9 sat unloved in the small, slightly damp store shed. It's too big for me to use and it needs some tlc (I reckon it has spent decades as a workhorse on a hefty bench in some Agri workshop clamping big chunks while some Garth whacks away with a FBH).

I use a 4" Jaw small Paramo and a Record 35P in the shed (& there's a cheapie Clarke "swindell" style rotating engineering vice that comes in handy ) - but the Parky is wasted on me.
Not sure it's worth much (though believe No9 is pretty rare), but I do feel bad about it just sat in a dank corner.
