I'll clean it, make new jaws, fix anything missing or broken, paint with my favourite shade of Lidl grey, then use it. It's not a showpiece.

Soaked overnight in a mix of paraffin and oil. Still locked solid. I'll apply again but I really do think it needs to go in a hydraulic press.

Acetone and ATF is suposedly good.

No wish to teach my grandmother etc, but overnight is nothing. If you've access to a press all well and good, but I'd give it a while yet with a daily tap or two to shake things up. One of the most effective things I ever used when removing seized stabilisers or rudders was liquid nitrogen, that was better than Exlax for shifting things.

Secure the front jaw in another vice, & grab the rear jaw & try to rotate it. Once you get a slight amount of movement, you're sorted. You could always tap it with a mallet to rotate it, if you must.

Gunwash contains a lot of acetone, as well as other good stuff (xylene, toluene, etc).

It's a 6" Swindens, if that makes any difference.

The nut is the key on the older Swindens. Don't think there'll be enough clearance within the inner to knock it out of the outer though, until they're separated, thinking back. It has been a few year since I did mine, however.

It's only the later versions, like doubleboost's, which had an actual key for alignment.

i got this recently as it looked interesting, have seen ones online before however generally with a drill attachment, had thick crimson paint over the japanning, most of the japanning came off with the paint when i used a paint stripper

Thanks for posting, interesting vice. I can't understand why he drilled wonky holes by hand when he has milling capability to modify other features ?
Sadly, the cheap chain does the refurbishment no justice.

Latest find, just doesn't have the box
