While not actually vices they are vice like with some shared features, which should be enough. But I don't know what they are. I came across four of these whilst at my local barn sale and thought them too nice to leave out in the rain. They are made by Woden and appear to come in pairs, it was suggested that they maybe floor clamps, but after looking at an online catalogue I'm not so sure. I'm sure someone out there knows what these are,.

Reminds me of a Tweaker Bar, for straightening the twist in a long timbre board to nail or fix it in place, only the one you have shown has a screw to provide a helping hand when done by one person.

That's for laying floor boards. The 2 pegs on the left hook on the floor joist and you use the thread to clamp the new board against the previous one before nailing. Usually used in pairs.

The more I look at it, I can sort of visualise that, But it looks like it would be limited to the size of the joist it could be used on ?
I have a couple of the Record type, which are similar to the ones my Dad had overseas.

I can see why you'd think that, and you may well be right. But , I would have expected there to be a more positive attachment to the joist. Here's the Woden floor clamp, while similar there are a lot of differences.

I didn't know what the one I got was either, it was the wise heads on here that filled me in.

mmm - using the tommy bar is poss but wouldn't be much fun for floorboards if the two pins are on a joist/crossbeam. Not likely but another train of thought - jacks or brakes for horse-drawn wagons often used a vice-type nut and acme screw. Or some coopers/wainwrights tool?

That is a spanner for assembling a vono steel frame bed, worth nothing!

Anyone know anything about Lorantco vices? I've a self centering vice, Type CV-2 that needs fixed:



The broken bit is this, the thread is damaged:




Also in that picture are lead inserts that have some part in keeping the slider bars in place. I think they'll have to come out to get the thing apart enough to mend the threaded collar.

Suggestions welcome.
