72` x 40` its a bit cluttered atm as during the winter months stuff like patio furniture/trailers/park benchs get put in from the weather...
Think the jacking points on the tractor may be in the wrong place. Its a Laycock lift, 2 tonne.

a few pics of my shed and stuff,hendey 14 x 30 lathe, warco major mill drill, unknown horizontal mill, warco saw, b&d valvemaster,hidden away are my hydraulic bending gear and portapower, a small zyto lathe, arcos lincoln 180c. main room is 20x18 and another section of 10x18 where i drive the motors in and revive old stationary engines. oh and i get the occasional visitor.

That tee slotted table on the sensitive drill looks really nice. Is it XY or just X? Puts those joke "milling" ones you see on ebay into perspective for sure

That tee slotted table on the sensitive drill looks really nice. Is it XY or just X? Puts those joke "milling" ones you see on ebay into perspective for sure
hello, yes the table is both x and y and with good travel also about 21" on the z axis, not the best of machines but for what they cost they are really good and have been able to plenty of work with it, cylinder head skimming etc.

Hi,
it's more than a bit cold in the workshop so I've not done much since before Christmas...
but I've been having problems for a while finding tools on the shelf. They tend to get covered with other tools and while they're usually within a couple of inches of where they should be, it's sometimes hard to find smaller tools.
I'd sold a train-set and the buyer didn't want the base-board. So we transferred my grandsons lay-out onto my board as it was slightly bigger and much lighter than his board. This left me with a nice plywood board and I decided to put it up on the wall behind the bench and put my hand-tools on it.
After taking down the old shelves I had to shift a couple of sockets. Then I made some simple brackets that hooked over the wall and bolted onto the wall-board. The board needed a couple of cut-outs to go around the roof struts...
I had it laid flat on the bench and laid out the various tools, then I drilled a couple of holes for each tool and used a suitable screw, 1", 2" or 3" with a biggish washer. The washers were then welded onto the screws using a bit of 3 x 10 mm flat, with a slot to go around the screw. This had the earth clamp in it and also made it easy to pull the washer tight up against the screw-head.
I had a few spare 'wall' boxes and thought they'd be good for small items, punches, marker pens, chalk, etc, but I didn't have any spare mounting plates. I found some MS around 1mm thick and cut some rectangles. Around 10mm was clamped in the vice and the free end got whacked over to 90 dgrees then I used my fingers to bend it straight again. As you may guess this left a small 'Z' shape that stands off the board by 8 - 10mm, more than enough to slip the boxes on. A couple of screws in each did the job.
The screwdrivers are slotted into a bit of dexion with the holes drilled out. The cold chisels and files sit in a bit of angle at the bottom with some 3x10mm to keep the top-end somewhere near the board. These were made with one flat piece around 6" long and another piece 2" longer with the ends bent at 90 degrees and welded together. I added some 1" pieces at various points to make individual 'pockets'.
That's the bacics, I guess there'll be some 'developement' over the next few months.

Hi,
well I did a bit of hammering on it to make indents to take a couple of extra screws and nothing fell off but it is 'early days' I suppose. I can add extra screws as required, or re-position stuff a bit.
The bottom of the board was originally left loose and it flapped a bit due to the garage wall not being straight/vertical. The last job I did was drill a couple of holes through it and hammer drill the garage wall then tap some wrawlplugs in a fit a couple of screws to hold it steady.
Generally I'll not do much 'hammering' on the welding bench. That tends to be done in the vice on the other side of the workshop.
