The lathes.co.uk site has helped me with so much knowledge since I've known it, that I think you should buy something there from time to time when a meaningful opportunity arises.

In this case, time was the deciding factor: I actually have a reproduced "Myford 280" book on its way from the UK to me, alone it won't be here in time to be of any help to me for viewing and testing.

I love a favourable opportunity, but then again I'm not that cheap, with facilities that you want to still be around tomorrow, you should buy occasionally ...

A good accessory to track down would be a Burnerd EC Multisize chuck.

Am I right that a full set of collets would be 12 pcs. with the size EC?

Better operated by a bar or a key (Jacobs)?

Tracking them.down is the easy part.
Paying for them is more difficult.
I have one but rarely use it as its so heavy to remove chuck that's on and I have not found a work flow that makes things easy.
Perhaps I need a few pointers.

My harrison m250 which I converted from 3phase using a vfd using the original controls to control the vfd. Seen here using a 3d printed chuck spider and a bed stop to produce a batch of spacers for a pair of kant twist clamps I'm making.

I realy struggle to like the background sloping apron on these - is it OK to use or does it continiously dig in to your leg just above the knee?

I've never noticed so I guess not, though it is about 10 inches off the floor!

Most lathes seem to be too low for me, so I have elevated my Boxford AUD lathe about 20cm, which has greatly improved comfort in use.

Interesting. My colchester Master 2500 is on wheels and it's too high for me.

Yes, on concrete blocks on the 6" thick concrete slab of the new garage I built.

I'm about 5'11" and don't feel comfortable being hunched over machines or benches. I was fortunate to acquire a Colchester universal steel workbench, that has a spring loaded mechanism, which is great for adjusting work height.

I've never noticed the sloping apron being a problem, but like @iNf, mine is raised a long way (230 mm) off the floor:

Funny enough, it was seeing your lathe on your website that made me realise that I would need to raise the lathe, I made the frame before I got the lathe. It certainly taxed my little 80A Parkside inverter to the limit ( not to mention the grinder !)

Yes, and a very, very good one.

I didn't own a welder at the time.
