Simple Tig Cooler

I thought i would post here rather than filling up my other thread which should be about welding.

I connected some pipes to the procon pump and sucked some water through as soon as i did this i could turn the pump by hand very easily.

Connected up the motor and it works. I think the motor is noisier than the pump.

Not much flow but should be fine? @Richard.

On the side of the pump there is a adjusting screw. Wind it in to increase the pressure. As it is at the mo there is not enough pressure to cool a Tig torch.
Could be the pressure adjusting screw could be the vanes are shot.
DONT over do it though. If you don't see an increase in pressure as you wind it in then there is no point going further. Best to adjust it while it's running.

Those procon pumps (model depending ) can make 100-200 psi of pressure. Yours looked like it was making about 5psi
That's a bad sign though.
Could be the adjuster screw needs taking up but more likely the effects of been run dry.
Check the adjuster screw has all the parts in place too. There should be a spring that compresses against the plastic flow adjuster inside. You can see all this when you remove the adjuster nut. If it's missing the spring then you'll get very low possibly no pressure at all so worth a check.

I removed the cover and adjusted the screw bit it made no difference. Should i remove and check the spring is there?

Yes check but if that's complete then it's knackered.

When you say knackered you mean the vanes?

I mean the vanes as a minimum. Who knows without having a look.

I done a good few. I could talk you through it if you get no luck.

Do you have a press. If not soft jaws in a vice. Once you've removed the circlip and cover you then take out the large O ring you can pretty much push the centre spindle out with the cap. Once the cap falls out stop and have a look so you can see how the vanes and tiny pins sit.
Like I say I've got an unused pump head i can strip but I'll want half decent brass for it because it's a fully working one.
I cannot imagine your pump head is gonna worsen if used correctly with water why don't you connect it to a Tig torch and see what it does for the giggles. You never know??

It seems a pity to strip a working pump down, surely i can get spares from somewhere? There is a pump on ebay (seller not sure if working) what do these cost new? Could the pipe i'm using be too big think its 10mm inside diameter.

No mate. These things are powerful pumps that would easily send water rushing down an inch bore no probs. You can wind em up to shoot like a hose pipe. I remember I had one split a torch hose once it was rigged up too high on pressure.
It is shot but it might be powerful enough. Look for a rebuild kit.

I think so but when you have it apart we will have a better idea of what's needed. I'd be inclined to put a torch on it before hand just to see.
You never know you may get 1-2 lpm coming through it in which case id leave it alone and use it as it is.

Its early .

3/8 bsp fittings.

Will the 10mm pipe i have be ok for the finished cooler? if so i will buy some 3/8 bsp fittings with the 10mm barb for the internal pluming.

I taped up the 8m torch and plumbed it up.

The procon pump sort of gets water through it .

Then i tried the 12v ebay special.
