Simple Tig Cooler

Been buying a few more bits and bobs for the cooler.

I need a 5v/12v power supply, 5v for the arduino and 12v for some pc fans.

Will this do the job?

Why don't you just use 230v fans. Keep it simple with 1 input voltage.

I'm enjoying messing with the arduino and would like to add it to the project. Helps distract from the mess i'm going to make on the tank.

No you don't !
Had you spent a bit of time cleaning up that aluminium and getting it in nice shape that tank would look fantastic.
As it is your just welding in the muck.
That's a shame because if you look past the dull grainy contaminated welds they look really good.

They are a bit better than the camera makes it look but my biggest mistake was not cleaning the edges properly, they were cut on the plasma and I should have cleaned them off.

I was hoping to rig the relay up to the pump today but while taking these photos i noticed the sd card in my phone was disabled so have spent the whole day trying to recover 800 photos from a corrupted sd card .

Added a buzzer which will sound if the pump is off, new lcd screen, push button and the relay.

I think the new ebay pump is also knackered, noisy and a lot of vibration through the hose and the adjustment screw does not change the flow.

new one ordered.

I took the stainless pump apart its not only the vanes that are damaged the outer carbon ring is badly worn and has a few chunks out of it.

Something ceramic was also broken, think its part of the mechanical seal.

The brass pump seems ok but was used for some type of oily green liquid so did not connect it to the torch. Shipping wont be cheap from Spain. The small item i sent slim_boy_fat was over €12. Your more than welcome to them, i will have to dig the bits of the stainless one out of the bin though .

That's gonna end up "cooler" than my basic builds.

Its cool but complicated? My cooler has a simple flow switch, no flow, no go, the switch just sits inside the cooler inline with the output pipe, it can be hooked up to the pedal or trigger, if the cooler is not running you can not strike up, simple

That sounds like a good idea. Didn't think about tapping into the switch/pedal.

I will be having a flow switch on mine but will just be using it for a buzzer. Was going to have a pass through socket on the cooler to power the welder via a contactor so that if no flow no go but decided a buzzer would be good enough.

I already had a flow switch left over from a previous job but on testing found it to be the wrong way, when there was flow it was active. Thought about putting a NC relay there for the buzzer but then decided it would be easier just to get a new reed switch and fit it to the flow switch, got it from RS for a couple of £.

Found out my issue with the tank the last day, when I was doing some welding earlier I discovered the cleaning was set way low, not sure why but must have inadvertently done it at some point. So when I discovered that I decided to cut a couple of bits of the exact same material the tank was made with.
First test I never cleaned at all, straight off the plasma.

Some contamination but certainly less than on the tank.

Next I wire brushed like I did with the tank and result was pretty good, well excepting the crap tacks in both tests

Probably never would have bothered even wondering the last day until you scolded me Just thought it was the nature of the beast with corroded Alu that you would get some contamination.

BTW Dazza, sorry for hijacking your post a wee bit.
