sip 24 litre Air Receiver

I was just having a look on the net and came accross this sip air receiver http://www.tooltrolley.co.uk/power-...p-6298-trade-24-litre-air-receiver-32803.html

Is it worth it for the money. I have a mm compressor at the moment 50L tank but I want to add to it. Ive been looking for a 2nd compressor to link to mine even just a tank like this what would people recommend ?

Search the compressors forum for "propane", it'll turn up loads of stuff.

yeah Ive had a look found that someone said this

1" BSP fits calor cylinders. I use one as a receiver. 1" - 1/2" reducer screwed into cylinder, 1/2" nipple, 1/2" T piece with a PCL female one side, Ball valve and PCL male on the other.

will that work ok ?

I've just been to the garage to check, and it's a 3/4" bsp in the top of the cylinder. I bought the fittings from BSS in Salford (they have branches across uk) but anywhere that does air stuff will have them.

My current setup uses a pair of Screwfix's cheapest 2 HP / 24 litre compressors and a 47Kg propane cylinder. It's a bit noisy but plenty of air. Have it all in the shed at the bottom of garden and pipe a feed to the garage (about 30 feet) by 3/4 hose.

I use the setup for spraying and air tools. It can sustain over 50 psi when running spray guns. all in under £100.

from the outlets (unregulated) of the two compressors to a Y connector, from there to the ball valve side of the propane cylinder T piece, other side of the T piece to regulator/filter.

So long as both compressors have auto pressure switches on (all new ones do)and you make shure that they both cut off before the safe working pressure of all equipment used, you should not encounter any problems.

I have attached a drawing, it's rubbish but you should get the idea.

Hi thanks for the drawing I just want to connect one compressor so I could just use a a Y connector straight to the propane bottle would that be ok ?

You'd run the output of the compressor straight into the left hand leg of the T connector.

Right Im gonna have a go and get the valve off the bottle tomorrow. Please could someone tell me what I will need and also what size bits i will need to get everything connected. Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Make sure you get all the gas out by filling the bottle with water first before you attempt to remove the valve - if a spanner slips and causes a spark you could be in deep do-dos. Don't put compressed air in until it is completely purged.

There's more than one way to the job, I'd just refer you back to the threads previously mentioned.

the bottle has been left outside for 24 hours with valve fully opend the bottle was empty when I got it but still hissed when valve was opend so I take it id put water into the valve ?

It's there for me, post 10.

The bottle will still have gas in it whether it hissies or not.

You need to force water into the valve, when it stops running remove the hose let the pressurised gas out and repeat until the bottle is completely full of water.

To be honest if you're not 120 % sure of what you're doing I'd leave it.

Well I went to the local car boot today and got my self a 2nd hand compressor the guy wanted £10 but I got it for £5. The guy said Its missing part of the motor but I only wanted it for the tank which is 50l it has a name of hydrovane on the side does anyone know what these are like Ive looked on ebay and the look expensive. ill get some pics in a min.

Hydrovane is a proper industrial make, the motor will be worth more than a fiver as scrap!
