I bought this off ebay,

brand new, was described as a lorry tank with 17 bar working pressure. I've been using it at 10 bar for a few years now.

Thanks series2 and rtbcomp. I have an old butane cylinder knocking about, but its quite small, so I'll probably hold out until I find a 47kg propane tank. There are a couple on eBay for not a lot of money.

I'm using it as a manifold really.

Air in from 3hp compressor
Air in from bank of fridge compressors
Air in from 2 hp compressor (not yet connected)
Air out to blast room
Air out to reserve tanks (solenoid valve controlled)
Air out to reserve tanks (via manual valve & non-return valve)
Air in from reserve tanks ( ditto )
Drain cock (replaced with a 1/4 BSP ball valve)
Inspection port
Pressure switch port (inc. safety valve, gauge & reserve tanks pressure switch)

Another thing I'd do if you're using a gas cylinder as a receiver is to paint it black and stick a "Non-flammable Compressed Gas" sticker on it.

If you have a fire it would hinder the fire brigade if they thought it was a proper gas cylinder.

The 2 I've got are bigger but only have bosses top, bottom, and each end.

One's clearly used, but the other was described as new. Which is a bit odd as you can clearly see where a bracket has been welded to it, and then ground off.

Last night I connected the new tank to my compressor just a quick question I add the cable for the tools to the 2nd tank well thats how ive done it for now and my air tools run fine they didnt previously they were slow and pointless expecially the windy gun and grinder but all good now thanks for all the help. I will post pics soon.

That's a result then. If the tanks are connected together it shouldn't really matter which you connect the airline to.

You'll just have to watch the compressor doesn't run for too long between rest periods.

I read somewhere that said use 2nd tank for the air line but thats fine if it dosent matter only proplem I had was that the hose that connected the tanks with was really long so just been to mm to get one of those whip hoses which is nice and short. My compressor is a clarke one so if it gets to hot it shuts off and it wont come back on till it cools it makes like a click noise then is ready to run agian. I didnt have much time to play last night but over the weekend I will try get both tanks filled and see what happens regarding the grinder. I might have gone OTT with the connections but it works also I fitted a 11bar blow off valve aswell just incase it over fills could do with some ball valves to isolate the tank and line but all in good time. im happy so far

If the compressor does stop due to overheating make sure you switch it off at the pressure switch to release the pressure in the delivery pipe (the pipe between the actual pump and the original receiver)

Hey rtbcomp I dont quite get what you mean ?

I'm guessing there is a pressure switch that stops the compressor when it reaches pressure. This is usually black box with a red knob on it. The knob has 2 positions, "OFF" and "AUTO". "OFF" is used to stop the motor manually, or prevent it starting in the first place, "AUTO" switches the motor on and off automatically.

When the motor stops the pressure in the delivery pipe must be released so the motor doesn't restart under load. Normally when it stops you can hear a short hiss, this is the air exiting the delivery pipe via a small valve in the pressure switch.

i think what rtb means stuart is the main switch for the compressor blackbox red switch turn it off there and it will make sure the motor dosent start under load when it cuts back in

my setup

this is how i did mine used the little one for years but that gave up a long while back so when i got the new comp i just plumbed the new one in to the small one and it works sound so yours stuart should work a treat ian
