Robert,
The blue/grey pair should go to 21NC on the new contactor ( or 22NC if that is physically closer ).
The green/black pair should go to A1 on the new contactot ( or A2 if that is closer ).
Hi Eddie,
I've moved to the other side of the old contactor. Picture no.5
Picture no. 1. Brown/Black pair went to contact 5.
Brown goes to mains cable in black sleeve. Picture no. 4
Black goes to 2nd contact up on the small transformer above the big one.
Bit of red tape to identify this black wire. Picture no.3.
Next: The Blue/Blue pair in Picture no.1
They went to contact 1 on the old contactor.
One of the blue's goes to the mains cable in the black sleeve.
Picture no 2.
The other blue goes to the ON/OFF switch on the front panel.
Picture no. 6
Thanks Eddie.
Robert
Still at the back of the old contactor there are two contacts above the 5/3/1
I've labeled Picture no. 1. Red tabs.
The Green/Green wire pair went to the top left contact on the old contactor
and the Red/Blue wire pair went to the top right hand contact on the old contactor.
Green/Green pair. One green goes to the blue gas flow solenoid (rt green) Picture 3.
The other green goes to the top contact on the smaller transformer (over the big one) Picture no. 4
Red/Blue pair. Red goes to the wire speed control green terminal box. 4th wire down from the top. Picture no. 5
Blue wire goes to right hand connection on the motor drive (It's black sleeved) Pictures 6/7
That's the last two pairs to re attach to the new contactor Eddie.
Once you've given me the info on that I'll install it.
Robert,
Thank you for the clear photos.
The green/green pair should go to A2 ( or A1, if A2 has already been used by the green/black pair due to length or position constraints ).
The red/blue pair should go to 22NC ( or 21NC, if 22NC was already used by the blue/grey pair .... ).
Fingers crossed!
Once again many thanks for this Eddie.
Now I have the full picture. Never taken this mig welder apart before. Never had to.
I'll get down to reassembly asap and report back. I'm confident in a positive outcome.
All the best.
Robert
Hi Eddie,
Just to confirm I'm still on the case. Haven't refitted the new contactor yet. Been involved elsewhere.
When I do I'll tell you the results. I haven't forgotten.
Best- Robert
It's been a while but this pm I've re-attached and wired in the new contactor.
Used all the wiring advice you very kindly gave me and wired in accordingly.
Works perfectly. No surprise to me.
The contactor clicks in and out as it should and the welder runs quietly and smoothly.
Will last now for many more years.
Haven't used it to do serious welding just yet cause I've only just installed the new contactor.
I'll do some proper welding with it tomorrow.
You advice and expertise is appreciated.
I'll now consider cleaning up the old contactor.
I may start a new topic on that job. It's a German built contactor and may only need a proper
cleaning.
All the best,
Robert.
