hi davenport, like i`ve said previously this car is stunning, and u have a very good high standad of work,
you not fancy painting it yourself?
me and a friend painted my rally tigra its not as hard as it looks..... if you do decided to do it yourself you will want to spend a fair bit time on keying the cars exteriour.
etched primer is the way forward....
what you doing for a windscreen and windows?
4mm polycarbonate?
or spend some more pennies on 4mm margaurd polycarbonate?
i`ve done interiors and engine bays in the past but tbh the finish is never great and the compressor in the shop isn`t powerful enough to run a gun for the length of time needed to spray a whole car..
as for windows..
the screen will be heated std item as i`ve removed the std heater the doors/3quarters/rear screen will be poly.. the rear screen and 3/4`s i may even see about dropping down to 3mm to save more weight as i don`t have to abide by any race regs..
sliders in the fronts as i doubt i`ll be attempting a drive thru McDonalds in this. lol
What did you use to get into the tighter spots to clean out rust and prep the metal? Can you get clean and strip type attachments for the Dremel and pointy type ones for a drill?
ok... been a while but my time has been directed elsewhere for a few weeks..
managed to break my scaphoid?? some bone in my wirst so thats hampered anything physical, however!
after much swearing at the "spazzhand" (a title lovingly given to the cast by my g/f and mates) and on 1 occasion setting it on fire (thats gonna take some explaining at the hospital) i had this:
which after a bit of tickling fitted here (the back will be capped in once its in place)
and replaces the toweye with something MUCH MUCH cooler!!
fingers crossed next year will see a big push and who knows maybe even drive the ****** thing!!!
Nice to see you back up and working on it again, WRT the wrist, take it easy. The scaphoid is one bone you need to heal properly to avoid all manner of problems in the future. At least setting fire to it wont have caused any harm..
its a genuine TRS tow strap so its only doing the job its intended for, as for the paint, i think my driving style will do more damag lol!! its fitted in the same place as the std item but with a much greater weld area...
Ferg- aye.. the doc that showed me xrays described it as a "awkward little ******" of a bone to heal.. fingers crossed it goes alright!
well.. probably the last update of the year and tbh it aint acheived much hahaha
a friend of mine recently donated the ends of his old S1 106 dash (superstar!).. so after getting fed up of staring down the abyss behind each front post of the cage:
so with a bit of dodgy sanding and shaping we had this:
and this:
will probably fibreglass a lip on the small piece then put a couple of tiny bolts through the main section to keep it all flush...
will run a long block and sandpaper over the edges to get them dead flat and then it can all go to be flocked once the wirings all done..
cheers for the positive comments, always nice to hear peoples thoughts,.. A good xmas and new year to all the forum users... catch ya in 2011....
at this point i`d love to say i`ve been super busy and its ready for paint and final assembly..
unfortunatly thanks to buying a clio172 for the missus.. having a month off work with a broken scapphoid and generally being skint not much has been one.. a few "work in progress" type features
taking inspiration from Ken Blocks billet handbrake lever i spoke to the man who can, Spanky! the cnc wonderman, i did a rough cad drawing and left him to tweak it to ease machining and whatever looks cool..
mine will be a bit similar but more pockets machined in the side and the name
R
A
T
T
L
E
B
O
X
machined down the back of it..
er... a few parts obtained that need fitting...
will do an update in a week or 2 as i have some time off work..
okey.... been a bit too long for my liking since any real progress ws made but time and finances mean its had to sit idle for a few months...
however.. the driveshaft mounted trigger wheel is just about finished...
rather than have a sensor hung out on the hub with excess wire and a fairly harsh enviroment i decided to mount the trigger wheel on the intermediate shaft behind the block..
unfortunatly due to the shafts shape its fatter at the ends than it is in the middle so i nedded to make a split sleeve around the shaft to mount the trigger wheel on...
so taking 1 bit of tube and a VERY cool tablecloth:
it was machined to a 27mm bore and then split in half...
these halves were then clamped onto the shaft and welded back up to "fatten up" the middle of the shaft...
as some of you know when the weld cools it shrinks and for once this was a good thing as the collar ended up so tight i could do the next step..
the sleeve was then machined on the outside..
bear in mind the only thing holding the sleeve on the shaft at this point is the grip it achieved when the welds shrunk.. pretty impressive to me.. but then i am an engineering geek...
a lump of ally was then spun, shaped and a few grub screws put in..
fits like a ****ing dream!!
the sensor will be mounted on a bracket fixed onto the cast ally intermediate bearing housing..
the ally trigger is now @ Stu Rogers getting some teeth machined into it.. (i dont have a rotary table for the mill!!... ****!)
should have it all fitted up and finished next weekend..
exactly.... the digi dash needs it for speed/odometer/gear indicator...
was tempted to just fit an ABS driveshaft and have it on the hub but the struts are already powder coated and i want to keep the wiring as tidy and hidden as possible...
spent a few hours down the shop yesterday while the missus went out for a bbq/**** up with her mates....
made a plate to block off the hole in the zorst tunnel:
made a bracket to mount me new horn:
got the tow strap mount tacked in place:
not sure if i`ve shown this before but the 205 washer bottle tank + pump is semi fited into the 3/4 recess:
then it was a job i`d been delaying for bleedin months as i wasnt quite sure how to approach it...
the strut-to-cage gussetting.. i decided the best bet was to refer to my pics of the black clio that resides at TDF occassionally and crack open the drinks:
so first job with stuff like this is some cadr templates:
clearance on the wiper mechnism is...er... bloody tight!!!
and after much swearing at the welder and a bit of cleaning up we had a semi-finished job:
midway thru i noticed a LOT of smoke coming up from under the dash and it appears i`d missed some seam sealer!! OOps:
well i made a smal oversight with my initial triggerwheel design... with the sensor relying on MAGNETIC impulses i feel i may have had issues with an ALLY trigger wheel...
ok... recovery time!!
after my almighty dropped bollock with the trigger wheel fiasco it was time to save the day...
so after 5 minutes on AUTOCAD and an email i was greeted with this STEEL!!!!!! wheel:
