solid mount YO:

Rubber mounts have the benefit of reducing fatigue issues. If the solid mount is the norm fair enough, but I'm surprised you can get away with it without cracking the mounting on the floor.

already adressed this concern... well at least researched it.. ready to address it once the car is stripped again and back on the spit...

i was lucky enough to be sent this picture of the shell mods done to the works F2 maxi spec 106`s...

right then... after a drunk night out celebrating evostu`s 35th birthday the rallying @ marham didn`t happen so despite feeling rougher than a particulalrly rough thing i went down the workshop in an attempt to achieve something....

the swirl pot needed the base trimming down a little and 4 new holes putting in it.. then came the job of finding somewhere to mount it that A:looked right.. B: made pipe routing easy and neat and C: somewhere out of the way...


after a bit of head scratching.. a few paracetamol.. mother rustling up beans on toast.. and a few gallons of black coffee... i had it... in between the tank and cage.. unfortunatly despite ticking box A, B and C... i had overlooked the D option.... somewhere easy to fit the thing....


the area of floorpan curves and shapes all over the fricken place so i made a small plinth for it.. welded 4 nuts on the underside and shaped it to fit the floor.. and heres the result.. (just needs welding in place):

i also finalised where the ECU will be mounted and made a little ally bracket to hold it in place... but forgot to take pics... my bad.. sorry..

managed to aquire some tube for the lower front X-member today...



first job was to make a couple of tabs for the rad to sit on... this chunk of box section was chopped up:

and after a bit of sanding and drilling:

the ends of the chassis legs had some random square holes in them which needed plugging up:

after a few hours i had achieved the start of the removeable section:

with the rad fitted i figured i might aswell see if the fan could be mounted off it too... out with some more box section:

and the fruits of the days tinkering... SHAZZAM:

Is that going to be a mounting bar for a sumpguard too? If so, are you going to box up the ends of the chassis legs to give some extra strength? Only asking as that was how mine was done. Would post some pics, but just looked through my collection tonight but don't seem to have any

These are the PTS brackets that were used though:

The end plates weld onto the chassis leg ends to make them box sections. The tubes weld onto the wishbone mounts.

i won`t be using a sump guard... having said that some of the potholes round here are getting sketchy....

haven`t seen those bkts before.. i know they also do a kit for reinforcing the shell around the wishbone pickups though.. that might well be looked into once the cr is stripped again...

Fair enough! I can't see the advantage of the modified bar over the standard one though? I can't see it stiffening the shell without the leg ends being boxed in, so the only advantage would seem to be that you have direct access to the engine once the bar is removed so it makes it a bit easier to get it in and out?

Very interested to learn about the wishbone pick up reinforcement though. Are you likely to be cracking on with the tubular wishbones anytime soon?

rust had started within the box section so it was easier to start again... that and my dad considered it a "suitable" jacking point when it went on the stands lol..

also toyed with dropping a 2.1 pug lump with dry sump in the future (many years off!).. with the inlets at the front of those being able to remake that bar and drop the rad for clearance of inlet...

tubula wishbones are on hold for now... the bearing rear mounts are machined just need to finish the jig and make them. but have to focus my time on the car first..

right. the battery is fully fitted now!! rather than drill holes in the floorpan i welded 4 studs to the floor and fixed it that way...

finally the last of my goodridge turned up so the plumbing is sooooooo close to being done now.. (just need the fuel rail/reg housing and reg) outts the bulkhead into bay:

had a quick look at the catch tank..

in an effort to keep the pipe level meant that the fitting ended up missing the tank:

so a quick think and 5 mins on the lathe followed by 5 minuts cutting and filing i had this:

which will all go together like this and be fully welded:

more stainless bolts.. push button to scroll through the dash screens.. holesaw for the sender..

also got another similar pushbutton as spare.. i think it might be useable for the launch control will have to ask matt....

also got the level sended fitted into the tank top plate and started nailing the pipes down in the car..

My I ask where you got your sender unit from, I guess it uses a float on the inside of the vertical tube?

the sender came from pro-alloy in haverhill... i went down friday to collect it.. real nice lads great company to deal with...

yeah theres a float in the tube so it can be used with tank foam..

got the fitting welded on today...

not 100% sure wht grade ally godridge use for there fittings but it didn`t like being welded.. the machined section i made was 6082 T6.. and the weld flowed into both parts lovely.. but the weld just seemed to sit on the surfce of the fitting... hmmm probably bad prep on my part either way.. its on...

just need to allow the tank to "breathe" to atmosphere (i have a cunning plan for this!!) and get the braided pipe cut and made up...

the mission was to find a way of allowing the catch tank to breath any pressure passed through from the top end..


i think the MOCAL tanks have a posh cap that allows fumes to vent out... - not an option

my old rocker cover had a tiny breather filter - not an option

just drill a few tiny holes - not an option...





no.. what was needed was something trick and time consuming!!



so...



first up i machined a ring with a recess in the base and 3 holes around the edge:

these 3 holes were then marked onto the tank and drilled out to accept a threaded insert.. a big hole in the centre of these was also cut:

finally a piece of foam was cut to sit in the recess of the top ring and then once bolted up will allow the fumes to vent!:
