Not that much I don't think, and less still if you get them while on offer.

Breaker bar - I got (on offer which helps) a 1/2 drive 36" (very, very long!) bar at £100, less a little discount and less a trade in against my other brand bar I was swapping out. I now swing off it knowing that if it breaks it won't cost!

If memory serves, a set of 10 to 19mm flank drive plus, which are far more expensive than ordinary spanners, was listed at £250. I think swapping 21, 22, 24 and 27mm spanners (ordinary, not flank drive plus) worked out at around £120, it's the large sizes where the price rockets.

If you get a good dealer though you find that prices can be very negotiable, and not only that but my chap will mix bits up to give you what you want, rather than a fixed set - e.g I may prefer a certain type of ratchet, so that'll get changed, may not want a certain length extension bar, may want a certain size socket etc.

The large spanner prices bill are more than that.
Last two I bought were 23 and 27 and it was over £100 inc vat for those 2 alone. For 4 off them your looking a lot more than 120 quid even in a deal.

When I bought my spanners it was roughly a £ per mm,ie a 10mm would cot about £10.25 years on I still have most of them(lost a couple).My breaker bar I paid about £60 for but snapped the knuckle 3 years ago as the knuckle was no longer available I was given a brand new one under warranty.

Nowadays the smaller sizes are around just under £2 a mm and the bigger sizes are over £2 a mm
If I can remember I paid over £75 for my 32mm (about 4 years ago)

Last two I bought were 23 and 27 and it was over £100 inc vat for those 2 alone. For 4 off them your looking a lot more than 120 quid even in a deal.

Not when I was getting them, quite recently! Although I forgot to say the prices I've been talking about are excluding VAT, which makes a sizable difference.

With vat I cannot see those 4 spanners going much less than £180.
£144 would pay for the biggest 3.
Second hand they fetch £30 a piece at that size.

Using the direct USA prices I make it £170 ish for 21,22,24,27. On a van I'd say 180 ish.

Your probably right. People tend to over price things on there a lot. I'll see the snap on guy next week I'll ask him for his current prices on spanners. I'm certain it's over £2 a mm for the bigger ones (20mm plus) these days.

Even if i was in the trade using them daily i dont think i could justify those prices.

As a DIYer the Halfords Pro kit i have have been excellent with some serious abuse thrown at them.
They replaced the few bits that have broken. (Need to take back my 3/8 ratchet as its slipping after 6years abuse)
One lady did get a bit above her station and questioned a broken torx bit but in the end i was given the new one.

They are well overpriced and no snap on tools owner is gonna say otherwise. I'm a bit of mixed bag as I buy what I like best. Snap on spanners cannot be beaten. No other spanner I've held or used is even in the ball park. Saying that though when it comes to pliers grips cutters I buy knipex. I think they are better than the snap on range. Snap on screwdrivers I'll never buy again as I think they are soft. My irazola set is older and far superior blade tips. I like the snap on ratchets/sockets etc and own quite a few but they ain't light years ahead here unlike they are with the spanners. I've got no loyalty to a specific brand I just buy what I think is best and it's not always snap on.

Well I've looked up the prices on the online site and often seem to pay less, we always negotiate the price down. And as I say, can often mix and match bits so I'm only buying what I need.

My tools have to be mobile.
They need to fit in the back of the car/van they also need to be in a position to be carried from the car or van if I'm working on site any where.
I bought one of these FOD boxes. It's perfect for exactly the requests above. It's also such a design that my gear and the tool box is well protected.

I buy the replacement handles for the panel beating hammers from the van, they are excellent. The panel beating hammers are also lovely to use. I own a few things (mostly hammers, and a pry-bar set).

£83 plus vat. That's nearly £100 inclusive. Even with a bit of haggling etc you ain't gonna get much knocked off as there prices are all pretty comparable and come off the system when the item nos are put in. The prices have rocketed as I believe my 30mm was less than £80 with vat a few years back. I won't be buying any more gear as it's simply not justifiable as good as they are.

The least I ever get off tends to be 10% - I can guarantee I'd get that spanner for £75 (plus VAT) - I'd probably expect to pay £70. If I was spending say £250, perhaps £300 tops on other bits at the time, it'd get thrown in for free as part of a deal, buy things together and you can get looked after.

Maybe I'm wrong here but I Can't see them chucking in 90 quids worth of freebee spanner with a £250 spend personally or we'd all be getting our free 30 milly as it does not take long to spend that on a van.
They are not going to give away 40% of a 250 quid order or even 33% of a 300 quid order in a free spanner. Remember these guys are self employed they make profit on the tools they sell but they don't make a mint. It's snap on that makes the mint with the tools provided to the driver. A £1000 order I could believe it as its 10% so the driver has made enough on that to cover the spanner. They ain't gonna give 35-40% of order value away for free. I struggle to believe that tbh.
