Operation word chisel.

Broken marples chisel. I broke the tang even more trying to fix it.

So set it up in the machine vice and milled the face flat, while in there drilled and tapped M8

Found a piece of hex bar, turned a taper to match the chisel. Drilled and tapped M8 again

Fitted quite nicely, quick rub over with emery and it’s much better.

I’ll get some rattle cans Tommorow and paint the handle

These seasoned veterans are usually using high alloy steel and the correct grade of inserts.

Nothing much wrong with that finish, mild steel doesn't generally get that shiny finish, a set of finishing files followed by Emery can make many sins disappear.

I bought a set of strike through chisels from Rutlands when someone posted a link on here and they are really good for the £30 plus post they cost. I use them with a nylon face mallet. That's saved a good chisel from the scrap bin Parm.

Look very similar to one of my marples sets.

I just use a claw hammer either head on or side on.

As long as the steel is good a cheap chisel can perform. Usually needs the back flattening and a decent sharpen

Yep, sort of. I was told by my cousin (master carpenter)

Soft wood, you need a sharp chisel

Hard wood, doesn’t really matter too much as it always needs a whack

Depends on application but a safe chisel is a sharp chisel.

Yep, I’d go with that. Any cutting tool needs to be sharp.

Blunt tools usually result in incidents.
