Depends on application but a safe chisel is a sharp chisel.
Applies to any tool with a blade.

My yellow and red marples are soft (comparitively) I use these for softwoods and general use. Easy to sharpen on siteYep, sort of. I was told by my cousin (master carpenter)
Soft wood, you need a sharp chisel
Hard wood, doesn’t really matter too much as it always needs a whack

My Stanley's and blue handled hammer through marples are harder. Hold an edge longer and tend to use these for hardwoods.

Nice handle but.
Cheers, I’ve been collecting an old set of Marples chisels, the ones with blue handles. I’ve got all the sizes now. I want to make some aluminium handles. I just like making new chisel handles.
I’ve got a couple with Titanium handles I made a few years back
There must be a name for this affliction
These seasoned veterans are usually using high alloy steel and the correct grade of inserts.
Nothing much wrong with that finish, mild steel doesn't generally get that shiny finish, a set of finishing files followed by Emery can make many sins disappear.
Once you find the name of your affliction (just make one up as I'm sure most are anyway), you can claim your a minority group and being discriminated against.
