Having gotten fed up with stuff all over and the Heath Robinson benches made out of any old lengths of wood, (usually lorry timbers ) , which ended up becoming shelves, I ripped them all out a while back and started from scratch and then spent a few pounds on Halford's tool cabinets.
Broke out the table saw and ripped some of the aforementioned timbers down to 3"x2", bought some 3/4" ply and I now have a bench, notwithstanding the junk on top that needs sorting, and a dedicated mitre saw station, underneath is mitre saw bits with the shop vac at the bottom:
I had contemplated making "proper" drawers but as most of the gear was stored in bread trays anyway I used them instead and they're great for storage:
And under the right hand side of the bench is a drawer in a drawer:
Above the bench is a charging station made outof offcuts of 3/4" ply that keeps it all in one place:
)
The other side of the mitre saw is another bench where the bandsaw and mini lathe live and below are cabinets for tools. Don't use the lathe much but it's handy to have:
More drawers, one for the lathe and the other for wood bothering tools:
And a drawer for the growing collection of wood turning chisels:
Moved the wood lathe in from the shed as the roof has a leak. OH donated a bedside cabinet that was a perfect height to use under the drill press. Again, it's not perfect but it keeps all the drill associated gear in one place. The grinder on the right is for sharpening wood turning tools but will be modified to have a drawer where all my Tormek grinding jigs can live:
And as I've only been wood turning for a few months I'm chuffed to bits with my first "proper" bowl. Made from a lump of spalted ash that I bought at the woodworking show at Harrogate last weekend, it's destined for my big sister as a fruit bowl:
Altogether pleased with how it's all worked out, everything is tidy and it's more productive, and I now look forward to going in the workshop rather than dreading opening the door to be faced with a midden. On the other wall is my welding trolley and a fold-up steel welding bench but it's still under construction and not worth a photo.
